Solar Eclipses

Greetings. I have not posted here in a long time, but still read occasionally. Who is excited AND in the path of the two upcoming solar eclipses? Oct 23 is the Annular Eclipse. I am only in the 80% portion for this one. The Apr 24 one, however, I am in the totality region! Looking forward to some fun pictures and video. I have some decent shots from the 2017 partial eclipse. So, a reminder to get your camera filters and viewing glasses if you plan to record and/or view these events.

Was searching for any previous topic, and came across this.

Just clarification - the annular eclipse will be Saturday, October 14, 2023. I've viewed eclipses in the past and bought viewing glasses, but I have no idea where they are and in any case they might not be safe to use after such a long time.

I'm probably going to go to the local science museum to watch this weekend. They say they'll be selling eclipse glasses, and I don't believe that will require admission. I do remember going there years ago to just buy eclipse glasses at their store and was allowed in to just buy it. They were something like $2 about 20 years ago.

There's some talk that Modoc County in California might receive a boatload of visitors this weekend. The maximum annular blockage will be there. They're in the northeast corner of California and one of the least populous areas of the state.

The National Park Service is encouraging visitors to come to their sites. I think a lot of the land with the maximum annular eclipse will be on Forest Service or Bureau of Land Management areas.

This was from 2017, and I haven't seen anything mentioning the upcoming eclipses.
