My parents have booked two rooms at SOG for all of us for the first week of May. Will we be happy there with a 6yo and 20 mo.? Since we can't check in 'til they get there on Monday, we're planning on staying at POFQ for two nights prior to their arrival (Hopefully using an AP rate).
I've seen where some people have stayed at SOG and walked to the Poly. How far a walk is this, and is it do-able with a stroller?

yes it's doable...the only time you won't have a sidewalk is when you cross the street to the poly parking lot. you'll have to walk thru the grass about 10 feet & then pavement. we didn't walk in january bc of the cold wind, but will walk in march. it will be easier to hitch a ride on the monorail....if you take sog bus, you HAVE to go to the TTC to get to the monorail...and the bus to AK/MGM took forever so we just drove there.

ps. my tip: bring your own shampoo/conditioner & soap....the stuff they provide is awful.

It's a very easy walk- 10 minutes. Like the previous poster said, it's sidewalk all the way except when you cross the street. I don't think you'll have any problem with a stroller.
You'll enjoy the resort. We were there in January. The rooms are large and it was easy to get around.
Have fun!

and sometimes...mostly during the day someone in a golf cart will come by and give you a ride...

Just stayed at SOG 2 nights a few days ago. We always walk to the Poly to catch the monorail. We have 2 in a double stroller and oldest rides on daddy's shoulders. Since they remodeled, the lobby and common areas have an almost WL feel to them. Not as grand as the WL, but what an improvement over the old SOG. Rooms are huge. You will get spoiled with all the room and have to adjust to a smaller room at CR. But I think the CR is awesome also and love that the monorail is right there and a short walk to the magic kingdom. How can you beat that?! Have fun!

we just got back from SOG yesterday and we never walked in any grass over to the Poly!! There is sidewalks all the way!! it took us about 10 minutes to walk over to the Poly and we enjoyed the walk. Sometimes the Shady shuttle would be there to pick us up at the resort and drop us off at the road. if you take the shuttle, don't forget to tip him! :moped:

Hey....we stayed a week the end of Jan. WE did enjoy our stay...prices are wonderful....rooms are huge. We walked to and from the Poly and there is a sidewalk path to the left after you cross the street at the Poly...or you can go right and cut across the grass and parking lot. We also were dropped at the end of the SOG driveway by a golf cart twice too. We enjoyed our stay....but we did miss the Disney Themeing and magic.....although you do get plenty at the parks. We are booked for another SOG in Nov. but I am thinking of possibly splitting it with a Disney Resort or staying at a Disney...the kids want to THE DISNEY theme. THey are 14, 11 and 6. YOu will enjoy SOG.

edk35, that's what we're thinking. We'll be going up before my parents and staying at a Disney Resort, so hopefully, we'll get our taste of the Disney Theming and then move over to SOG for the big room and pleasant dreaming. :jester:

Here's another SOG question...Can you get charging privileges (like at the Disney Resorts) for in the parks on your SOG Room Key?

No charging privileges for the parks but you can charge things/meals at the resort. You can have packages delivered to SOG.

Yep they sure are. We just stayed there the end of Jan. and we were able to use them. The only one we used was the EMH at EC...so a few things were opened til midnight the last night we were there. Only Mexico and Norway were opened in the Showcase.........and then some of FW was opened. Most of the eating places are closed and the shops were all closed except Gateway Gifts........which is a smaller shop. I tend to not use the EMH at the parks.......say MK has one...then I go to another park.....to avoid mass people going to the EMH. JUST MY OPINION.

Oh and make sure they have fixed the bus problems before staying at one of the Late night EMH. The night we did the EC one......the bus never came to TTC to get the SOG guests. WE sat there with a group of 20 people waiting for over 30 min. We finally called the hotel at 12:15...a.m. and were told that we should take monorail to Poly and walk...which is no big deal........but at midnight IT IS. SOG has it's own buses...and apparently that night the bus driver forgot it was EMH AT EC. So the front desk person had the entire group fill out complaint forms.
