But Too Lazy To Look For Some

I remember several years ago (about a year after it opened) hearing that SoG was not looking like it would stay afloat financially. We enjoyed our stay so much then that if I had to pay a few extra bucks a night just to keep the place open, I would gladly have done so. Well, the rates for us to stay there now are getting to be more than I would have thought. The SoG renovation gave us an opportunity to stay at a WDW resort last year and, with the deal we got, at rates comparable to SoG. I wonder now if would ever stay there again, as opposed to looking for affordable deals at WDW resorts. Anybody else looking for other places to stay now?

not us, as a family of 5 our choices are very limited. we split our stay between the Swan/Dolphin and SoG. I can't wait for the renovations to be complete!

Ya gotta remember....There's no tax on SOG rates!!
They have the LARGEST standard rooms on Disney property.
While their full service restaurant, (in the past), has been mediocre at best....You can still get a bite to eat in the morning, or a sandwich or pizza at NORMAL prices, like you might pay at home.

When you take everything into account, SOG is still the best deal you are going to find on Dis property.

In defense of SOG- I think that the room rates are still reasonable when you think of the room's amenities - The most expensive rate is $116 (Poolside) all year round - and for that you get: 2 Queen size beds, single sleeper sofa, coffee pot, refrigerator, in room safe, hair dryer, alarm clock radio, iron and ironing board.

The room is one of the largest on property. It compares to a Deluxe resort, and it would be tough to find a deluxe resort in that price range (Sure- during Value season, you can stay Standard view AKL, or WL for about that- IF you get an AP discount or FL resident discount, etc. ) . You have to remember that with the increase in # of rooms at SOG, Overflow rates will be nonexistent except during Peak periods (Christmas week...). And WDW's Military Salute is a one-time deal. So- All-in-all, I think SOG is a pretty good deal- It will be interesting to see what the new resort looks like! Jill

Good point about the room rate with no tax. I also liken it to staying at a monorail resort, for the sake of a 5-10 minute walk across the street to the Polynesian. The whole experience should be enhanced by the renovations. My parents are trying to get a "grandchildren reunion" going next year and have booked a few rooms for June. Unfortunately, I may be in between moves around that time and don't know if we can make it. Besides, I was hoping to surprise my DW with a Disney Cruise with the kids for our 10th anniversary, and was going to ask my parents to go too (built-in baby-sitters??). Don't know how we could afford all that.
