SOG - Does it have the Disney Feeling?

Before the SOG was sold to the Army it was considered a Deluxe, it was called the Disney Inn. So the size of the rooms compare to the Poly. We stayed there before the renovations and were very satisfied and we visted in Dec 04 and were floored by the beauty of the resort.

It is beautiful? Yes! \
Does it have Disney theming? No
Is the transportation as convenient? No
Are the rooms big? Biggest on Disney property
Who is paying for the room? If I didn't have to pay I think I would learn to love it! :goodvibes

We are going for it at SOG! After reading some of the great descriptions of the property I can't wait to get there. Looking forward to my Patio/Balcony! :goodvibes

Thank you all for your help!

Too bad swatts1 you won't be getting our room!

LOL! Glad you decided. I'll be happy to share my favorite resort with you! I'm leaving tomorrow and can't wait.

Would I love to stay at GF or BW? Sure would. Just can't justify doing so when we have such a wonderful benefit at SOG.

We spent 6 weeks in Europe last summer, and in the UK we paid more than Disney Deluxe prices for some pretty average or even below average rooms. We should all be thankful for the prices over here, compared with over there!

Everyone have a great time...hope to see you there! I will have my lime green!!!

Amen to that! Forgot to mention it, because I'm picky and always take my own... but they put the same product in both of our dispensers... we never figured out if it was body wash or shampoo, but it was terribly drying, so DH & DD both ended up using my Victoria's Secret stuff the whole trip :rotfl: . Hubby smelled pretty darned good, though! LOL

:rotfl: omgosh....Hubby smelling like vs must've been a laugh riot. I would never let dh live it down! Almost as bad would've been buying him Dove soap to use in Iraq...Thanx for the evening laugh! :flower:

LOL... any time! I'm talking to him right now (he's in Korea) and I just confessed that I told the story! Guess he can't chase me down for it, since he's halfway around the world! :teeth:

brutal! I love it....almost as bad as when I had the husband believing the prize patrol van was here! :rotfl:

How long has he been in Korea?

oh wow...that is going to be a second honeymoon! And you are all going to wdw when he returns right?

That was our major plan here when dh returned from OIF but he was injured so we had to wait for physical therapy and then kids to be off of school. So a delay....

Hope the time flies for you!

My ex-husband is retired USN, does that mean my kids, his dependents, could take advantage of SoG or would that be only if he were with them?

As long as they have dependent military IDs, they should be able to stay there.

I have to say SOG has a Disney feel. I know I am on Disney property. I don't have to use my car while I am there....totally internal transportation. I can buy my tickets at SOG just as other Disney guests buy their tickets at a Disney resort. I can even buy Disney souvies in the SOG gift shop. I see nothing but Disney while I am there.

I don't see how a hidden Mickey on a bedspread or a package of soap with a Mickey wrapper makes a hotel FEEL like a Disney resort :confused3

I have to disagree. Where else can you stay where you have the option of walking to another hotel to take advantage of the monorail system? I have resort hopped and have never been so inconvenienced as I have been using Disney transportation. Sure, SOG buses come once an hour, but they always come. Tried staying at one of the All Star resorts? The bus stops at ALL of the locations before continuing to TTC. That's a really long ride and very crowded. Can't forget the time we were stranded at Downtown Disney late at night because the Disney bus never showed up to take us to TTC. We waited over 2 hours and finally got the driver from Grand Floridian to take us to TTC. I have been to SOG several times and I have never been crowded out as I have been on a Disney bus.

Just because SOG buses run on hourly schedules, it does not mean it is inconvenient. You just have to plan your schedule just as people from the other resorts plan around their bus schedules.

Sleepy, I agree with you. I also eat more at WDW than I do at home so a little walk to the Poly is a good idea. When I have someplace to get to and "time is money", we take the car. I don't particularly find any of the Disney transportation convenient unless you are going in a direct line and its there waiting. Shades of Green certainly has a Disney feel to me. We were at the Yacht Club during a particularly crowded time. What a relief to transfer to the peace and quiet of SoG.

Just ignore, please. Couldn't find a 'delete' button for my post. :)
I actually think that you asked a legitimate question. I think for some people that is a real plus. They don't take a car, it might be their first trip to WDW and the Disney transportation simplifies things. I personally think its cumbersome because there are too many stops but other people wouldn't dream of driving anywhere there and so they like it. For me, it isn't a big thing.

We spent 5 Days at SOG in 2002. It was very relaxing. The hotel is nice, and although is does not have that Disney feel, we thoroughly enjoyed being able to settle into the calm after a wild day at the parks. I'd go for the stardard view by the way. It is much nicer to look at the golf course and ponds than listen to someone else's kids at the pool. The view cannot be beat for the money.
