Soft toric contact lenses

I recently switched from hard lenses to soft lenses/glasses. There was a change in my prescription as hards tend to reshape the cornea. I waited a month, was re-tested and got the softs.

The trouble is that I feel nauseous and a bit dizzy - especially while driving or watching TV/movie with lots of movement. And sometimes just while sitting.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this experience. Thanks.

I wear soft lenses (always have) with a toric lens in my right eye. I've never had any problems like you describe.

I would go back and have them rechecked. I have toric lenses and never had the type of problem you are suggesting. I did have those symptoms once when I got a new pair of glasses. It turned out that they had done the perscription incorrectly. Don't suffer, get them checked.

I agree, have them checked. Toric lenses are weighted and if they don't fit right they can spin and make you feel dizzy when they're not lined up properly.

I Have worn Focus toris lenses for about 20 years and with no problems like that....sometimes if one is dirty or wearing out I do get headaches though...try giving it a good cleaning

I had major problems with my soft toric lenses -- I couldn't see well enough to wear them, so I went back to my glasses. As it were, I need glasses with progressive lenses, which I don't think can be corrected with contact lenses.

As soon as they perfect surgery for those of us with severe astigmatisms, I am going to look into it.

I also wear a toric lens in my right eye. No problems like you describe. I would get that checked.

My boss-( an office manager for an Ophthalmologist) wore Rigid Gas Perms for a looong time and our docs did tell her that toric lenses were out of the question because of her many years of hard cl wearing. Or your prescription could be needing to be looked at. We always say to give it a week and see if it gets better. Did you use a shorter wearing schedule to get used to them? Like two hours day one then four, then 6 etc..?

I've been wearing soft toric lenses for years and I love them. However, I've been on the same right lens for about 3 years because I can't find any others that fit as well. Luckily my Rx hasn't changed! I keep trying different disposable samples and I've tried all kinds of brands but none are as comfortable and gave me that woozy feeling. I'm fine as long as I don't rip this one or change prescriptions.

Is it possible you do not have the correct lense(s) in your eye(s), that you may have them reversed? My eyes are different Rx, both toric - which in itself stinks because lenses will cost the $$ each time as I need to order 2 boxes at a time.

If you haven't mistakenly put the lenses in the wrong eye, go see your Dr. and have your prescription or lenses re-checked. Either the Rx is wrong or you were given the wrong Rx lenses.

I just switched to a toric in my right eye too and am having no problems.

Maybe it's the brand of toric lenses? I recently switched to toric lenses - I was fitted for Encore brand lenses and had a terrible allergic reaction a day later. They switched me to Bausch & Lomb Soflens 66 Toric and they are working out for me.

Thanks for the replies. I think I have them in the right eyes. The vision is excellent, although it occasionally goes blurry when the lenses turn. My astig is 1.25R, .75L, so there is a difference.

>Did you use a shorter wearing schedule to get used to them? Like two hours day one then four, then 6 etc..?

They didn't say anything about that. Just not to wear them more than 10 hours a day. Yesterday I wore only glasses and I still felt queasy at the end of the day!

Perhaps it does have something to do with the hards that I wore for 24 years! I'll see how it goes but if it persists into next week I will see the doc. It's too bad because I otherwise like them and the vision is good.

Strange, he said I wouldn't be able to read with them but reading is great.

Also interesting. My hard lenses are 2.75 in each eye. When I had a test it was 2.25 with only .25 astig and an angle of 90. After three weeks of no hards, it was 1.00 in each eye, .75/1.25 and 180. So the hards really did change them. Oddly, I could see wonderfully with the hards so if I did go back to them I'm not sure what the prescription would be - 1.00 or 2.75?

I was only fitted for CL in March. I still have difficulty adjusting from my computer screen to paperwork on my desk at work. Mostly that is because I need corrective lenses for far away. The Doc said I could get a slightly lower Rx if I continued having trouble balancing my vision between the two. Driving and watching television, even reading the DIS have been splendid while wearing the lenses.

Regarding the spinning factor, is this endemic to toric lenses or a result of improper fitting? Thanks.

I have no trouble with mine spinning. If I happen to put them in where the weight is not at the bottom, they will turn to that point.

Yes, if they are slipping around in there when you blink. You should have a follow up appointment, anyway, after about a week. It does sound like they don't fit your eye.
