Soft opening help

Can anyone help me out with the soft opening stuff? I understand that you could somehow get lucky enough to ride the attractions before the actual opening. What do you have to do to get picked? Just hover around the area all day or what?
Any help would be appreciated. We'll be there from June 28th till July 4th.

Last time when the first HP area opened, hotel guests were allowed in for awhile each day as a soft opening (is what I remember - I wasn't there).

This year we don't know if:
a) there will be a soft opening but you'd think there would be
b) when it starts
c) who it is open for - only those with the special HP package, hotel guests, or the general public

I'm there July 1st so I'm awaiting details on whether to go or cancel my hotel reservation and wait until next year - and just do Disney instead.
