It's wondering if anyone has any advice or recommendations on what I should eat/drink while training for the wine and dine half. I have to be on a soft diet for a few weeks from jaw/dental issues. :( supposed to do 11 miles this weekend but I guess I could alter the training schedule if necessary and do a shorter 7 or 8 miles and wait 2 weeks for the 11. (fwiw, I can't eat bananas)

TIA!

how about smoothies with added protein powder?

PowerGel, GU or the like for during the duration of the run/walk

I like the idea of the gels, most any brand and you can get them at most running stores. I am one who does not manage a whole packet at one time. I can manage 1/2 then after about a mile or so, I down the other part. You might experiment with this and see how you feel.

I would recommend something with protein for right after you are finished. Milk, chocolate milk, check any protein style beverage and work with that.

Hope you feel better. Follow what your body is allowing you. Remember you've had surgery and you are healing. Try to not push yourself too much when getting in these miles. You don't want to hurt yourself. It is ok to take it easy, just don't push the mileage into your taper time. (Prior to the event) You need that time go allow yourself to heal from all your training and be ready to face the event.

Get better soon. Find the fun.

I'm going to move this to the events side hoping that someone else who has trained for the distances may add to this.

I (DW) like the Ensure muscle health shake. It is an easy way to get 250 calories, 13g protein, 8g fat. To make it more like a smoothie, I put it in the freezer for about an hour (until it is not totally frozen) then take it out and shake it. it is available as strawberry (my favorite), vanilla (I don't like as much), and chocolate (never tried it). Sometimes I use the vanilla as a base for a smoothie - I add frozen peaches, instant nonfat dry milk (for protein) a tablespoon of OJ and a little honey. I do not run the distance you do (not yet), so this is not a complete solution but like I said, it is an easy way to get calories.

I am in the same unfortunate situation. However, my dentist told me I could eat some regular foods as long as I was not opening my mouth too wide. This is not an easy thing to deal with right before the Wine and Dine (which I am also racing). Yesterday I ran 15 miles (also training for Goofy) and I had a protein shake with strawberries as soon as I finished. Later I had a milk shake with soy milk and ice cream. Eggs, Greek yogurt and small cut fruit are also good choices. Good luck!
