has anyone ever stayed at the Sofitel hotel at Gatwick North terminal. we are booked for one night at the end of april before flying to florida. is it easy to get to the south terminal from this hotel.:cheer2:

Very easy and it will only take a few minutes and you dont even go outside:thumbsup2

It is a nice hotel

We stayed there last year, here's a couple of pics for you.

We had no problems there and will be staying again on Wednesday night.

yes we enjoyed our stay there, we have always stayed at the Hilton, gave Sofitel a try wont go back to Hilton, easy to get to south terminal:thumbsup2

We use the Sofitel every year - although we fly BA to Tampa from North terminal, we usually eat at Pizza Express in the South terminal. It's literally 2 minutes on the monorail. Even if we did have a flight from the south terminal, would still use the Sofitel, it's by far the best option at Gatwick imho.

We stayed here Feb 2007 before DH & I flew to Las Vegas. Lovely hotel & would def stay there again.

Getting to the North terminal is very easy, we ate across there too, so didn't sample food or drink in hotel.

thank you for your answers regarding the sofitel, sounds like a good choice!:)

What rates do you normally get? I was looking at one night with car parking for 15 days and it was about £240!! Is this the normal rate?

We love the Sofitel and have stayed here many times and prefer it to the Hilton, when I priced it for our trip next week it was coming up at 186 pound with the meet and greet parking.
What site did you see it for 240? I just had a look on holiday extras and for beginning of December and it's 190 with meet and greet.

I just checked on holiday extras and the Sofitel and the Hilton are not showing as available for Saturday 7th Feb 2009. Could they be sold out already or have they not released next years prices?

I only quickly looked at their own website to get a rough idea of price. What is meet and greet?

If we were to stay then our car will be left for 17 days...do you know how much the additional charges for parking the 2 extra days?

Phew! I am so glad to read all the good reports about the Sofitel! :goodvibes

We had to change our plans around when BA decided to cancel their flights between Aberdeen and LGW! We now fly into LHR, bus over to overnight at the Sofitel, then fly out of LGW the next day. :guilty:

BA hinted we "might" be compensated for the additional costs we will incur. I booked the hotel through them on one of their reservationist's recommendations. Can't find the rate we paid on my paperwork  but £140 is floating around my head at the moment! This includes a room for 3 (2 ad. 1 ch.) and full breakfast, but no parking. ;)

We invariably stay at the Sofitel the night before. It has plenty of facilities, including 3 restaurants and a lobby bar, and a very pleasant ambiance. The service in the lobby bar can be infuriatingly slow and the prices of both drinks and food are on the high side. We think the standard of food is pretty good, though.

We always book using Airmiles (I think it's usually in the region of 2100) and book car parking separately.

Mrs H, I suspect those dates aren't input to the system yet. I've had similar problems in the past trying to book hotels that far out.

Meet and greet is a great service that we would probably never self park again!
The car parking people meet you at the airport and they take your car, then on arrival back at the airport they meet you with you car, nothing worst than getting on that bus back to the car park!

The price on holiday extras is for 15 nights, I can't entirely remember the price of extra nights but it may be around 5, but you'd have to check that. Last year it worked out cheaper to book the meet and greet parking and hotel separate as we were away for 22 nights.

Thanks so much for your help. :flower3: I will look into the extra parking charges as it does sound a much more stress free way of parking. :cloud9:

That seems to be the norm though. The last hotel we stayed at "near" Gatwick was about 8 miles away by bus, the rooms were musty and the food was awful! :sad2: The worst thing is, it was even more expensive than the Sofitel! Wish I'd known about the Sofitel back in 2006! :guilty:

We won't be arriving until late evening and will have had an early supper before leaving home, plus breakfast is included in our room rate, so the food prices won't affect us. Good to hear that food is fine though! :goodvibes
