Hi,

Would someone be able to elaborate how things work with having the sofa converted to a bed? Although there's only the two of us travelling, my sister and I would like to have separate beds. Is this something you're asked whether you want before you cruise, or do you have to ask for it when you're on board. Is the sofa converted every night and then changed back into a sofa?

Any information about this process would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

You can do it either way. Your room host will make the bed and put it away everyday. They will do it all!

Thanks robhawk, is this something we can ask for in advance, or do we speak to our housekeeping when we're on board?

Just ask your stateroom host to make the extra bed. Every evening he will turn down the queen bed and will convert the sofa into a bed. The sofa bed will be a twin size. In the morning, the host will make the queen bed and return the sofa bed to a sofa. All you have to do is ask on day 1 and it will Magically happen every night after that. Have fun!

I was traveling with my BFF and at our first meeting with our cabin attendant (Embarkation), he inquired if we would need him to prepare the sofa bed or the bunk bed.

We advised him the sofa bed would be fine .

My BFF decided later that she would like the soda bed not converted back to a sofa so SHE could sleep the cruise away. He would then clean the cabin, change linens and make the beds, but leave the sofa bed unconverted.

This was all done when she left the room for breakfast, in addition, I would run into him in the hallway and he would check to see if anything was needed. If I did (e.g lotion ) he would leave it when my BFF was out. He seemed to know when she was in the cabin and steered clear of it.

Needless to say I did tip him well .

Thanks very much, I'll remember to bring extra tip money and a nice gift for our cabin attendant. :-)

The back of the sofa folds down, revealing a mattress in the back of it. It is a very easy process for your stateroom host/ess to convert it and will be no problem for him/her to do so. Extra tips are always nice and I am sure they will be appreciated, but this task is a part of the hosts' job and one that they do in nearly every stateroom on every cruise so it's really not a big deal.

Enjoy your trip!

I cruised with my sister, and while I can share a bed with her, she can't sleep in a bed with another person. So, she got the sofa bed :-)

When we first met him, we asked our stateroom host to please leave the sofa bed as a bed for the length of the cruise, that that was better for us. He did starting that evening and it worked really well for us -- sister could take a nap in a bed whenever she wanted.

I think my sister and I can both be very restless sleepers, which is why it will be nice to be able to have separate beds, and why it's nice that the Disney hotels usually have 2 beds as standard.

Which ship are you on? The Wonder's queen beds still split into twins.

Here's a picture with the sofa bed set up. As mentioned the back of the sofa folds down (the mattress is in the back) to make the bed. It's a regular twin size.

Thanks for the picture PrincessShmoo. We haven't booked anything yet, waiting for the Sep 2015 prices, but it will be the Dream and we're looking to book a room with a verandah.

i went with a friend on one cruise and we decided we would rotate the bed situation so that we could both have a chance to sleep on the queen bed with all that lovely room.
i took the sofa the first night and did not switch all the rest of the cruise. it is the most comfortable bed i think i have ever slept on. maybe it was just being on the ocean but man i slept well.
all my other cruises have been with dh so have not had the opportunity to use it since.

That sounds very encouraging. Besides, I think we'll want to spend most of our time out of bed, either on the veranda or being elsewhere on the ship.
