I'm thinking of renting points to see if we might be interested in joining DVC. Before I do that I need help with one thing.....

Could someone please tell me if the sofa sleepers are comfortable. I have two boys ages 9 and 15. How would they do on the pull out? Do families of 4 typically go with a studio? We are going for a ten day trip and point wise the studio works for us.

Thanks in advance for any info.

okw studio has 2 queen beds. the others have a queen and double sleeper sofa.

the sofa is a double (full) not a queen. So for 2 teen boys it might be a tight fit...

you can bring an air bed - there is room for one - over close to the door.

Thank you.

Does anyone have experience with the studio that offers a daybed as well as the sofa sleeper. Is that a pull out from under the queen bed? Is that still considered a studio as far as points go?

If you are talking about the "daybed" at BWV, it is really nothing more than a bench with a think padded cushion on it. It might be appropriate for a very small child to sleep on, but eve that would be hard, since it is not very wide. Given the group, their ages and the length of time you will be there, I would suggest you rent at least a 1 bedroom so you will have a bit more space. That will have a queen size pull out instead of a double. OKW has the 2 queens in the studio, but in both those options, you will still only have one bathroom and no privacy. I would go with a 1 or 2 bedroom at OKW or SSR (both cost less points) and maybe avoid a bit of family feuding during a 10 day vacation. You wont get a really good feel for a DVC vacation by staying in a studio. You might as well stay in a hotel, because a studio room is really just that. The real value of DVC is the 1,2, and 3 bedroom villas.

Thank you....that is exactly the type of information I was looking for. I wondered myself if it would be no different than a hotel room, actually almost worse.

It does however, seem to be a way of staying at an Epcot resort without paying roughly $300 per night, or am I wrong? If I need 125 points at let's say $10.00 per point it would cost me $1,250.00 for the 10 day stay. That's way cheaper than $3,000.00 and believe it or not is cheaper than it would be for a moderate resort. PLEASE HELP ME IF I'M WRONG IN THE WAY I UNDERSTAND THIS.

That's how it works. And no taxes are added onto the rental!

If you are set on an Epcot resort, yes, renting points for a studio at either BCV or BWV, may very well be the cheapest way to go; unless you can qualify for a teacher's, gov, AP or RN discount at Swan/Dolphin.
Personally, if you qualify for a discount at Swan/Dolphin---that is the way I would go. The studios at BCV and BWV are very, very nice for 2 people or even 2 people and 2 young children; but with your traveling group---no way! It will be much too close for comfort. If you want to rent DVC pts and need to stay in a studio--OKW is the only way to go. And that will also be too close for comfort, imo; but at least you will have 2 queen size beds. However, you will lose the superior resort location.
Unfortunately, there is no way to stay in an Epcot DVC resort, paying studio rental prices, to fit your traveling group's needs.
A discount at Swan/Dolphin, will be your best way to go. If you do not qualify for a S/D discount, then I would decide if you really need the kitchenete in a studio. If so, go with OKW; if not book at one of the moderate resorts. If you book at POR or POFQ you will have the same modes of transportation, essentially the same location and will most likely cost less than renting a DVC studio at OKW, especially if you are staying Fri and Sat nights. Depending on your travel dates, you may even qualify for the free dining plan--if you stay at a non DVC resort.
Good luck and have a magical trip!!!! :wizard:

Thanks for all of your help. We are taking your advise and have decided to split the stay. First weekend at POR (When points are more expensive) and then switch over to BW with a 1 bedroom for the rest of the trip.

Now, here's crossing our fingers that we can rent the points from someone for the time frame we will be there. pixiedust:

I knew I'd get some honest opinions from you guys.......thanks again.

sorry but I totally disagree with this about the studio. Just because you don't use them a lot of us do. As far as the same as a reg hotel room (WOW) couldn't be farther from the truth IMHO.

(WOW) again. ( actually almost worse) :confused3
If this is your thought then you should maybe stay at a reg hotel at WDW

If you are worried that sofa fold out are not good enough then I would diff. use OKW for the 2 bed studio.

sorry I hope this doesn't sound rough

My wife and I consider the studios the real DVC value - many more trips, not using points for a kitchen that doesn't get used. It's usually just the two of us, but we just came back from a BWV/BCV stay with our 8 year-old granddaughter in tow, and we were very comfortable in a studio. My son, and DIL have shared a studio with granddaughter and her 12 year old brother, and they thought a larger unit would have been a waste of points, because we usually spend about two hours a day in the unit - one in the morning, and one in the evening before bedtime. Just another point of view.

I wouldn't say that you sound harsh.....but, please understand I do not have the privelage of being a DVC member as some of you are, and I have no idea what a studio looks like except for the info I'm getting from people like yourself. All I know is that a studio has 1 queen size bed and 1 pull out full size sleeper. I am trying to compare the comfort for my children of a full size sofa to a queen size sofa or queen bed.

Thank you for your constructive opinion. I was hoping to hear both sides of the coin (so to speak) to help us make a decision.

Take a look at the Disney Vacation Club website: http://dvc.disney.go.com/dvc/index

Once it loads, Under "See Our Resorts", select a resort. When a resort's page loads, select "Accomodations". Click on "View 360 degree Room Tour" and a window pops up. Select "Studio" from the menu and you will be able to view a studio at the resort you selected. Click and drag in the window to tour the room. Click on the little blue squares to see the bathroom and kitchenette areas.

Also, click on "Studio" on the Accomodations page and a window pops up showing you the floor plan.

You're welcome. When we were trying to decide which DVC resort to buy, I spent quite a bit of time on that site comparing the resorts.

Another good site for WDW hotel room and DVC villa photos is allearsnet.com Go to their accommodations page: http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/faq_hot.htm and then from the list of resorts on the left side of the page, select either "Photos - Text Links" (for a list of available photos) or "Photos - Slide Show".
