We are staying in a one BR at AKV in the fall and are using our points for the ressie. DMIL will be with us and she says she doesn't mind sleeping on the sofa bed. However, I don't want her to be uncomfortable. She's not old (54) but does have Rheumatoid Arthritis which is under control. Is the pull out sofa comfortable enough for a 5 night stay? Or should I look into borrowing points to move up to a two BR?
TIA

We just spent 5 nights at AKV in a two bedroom. My mom (age 74) has a very bad back and is in a wheelchair when we go to the parks. She slept in the living room on the sleeper chair, essentially a twin bed. She loved it. Thought it was very very comfortable, even for her bad back. I"d say you'd be fine in the one bedroom.

Unfortunately, I'm going to post the opposite view. My 78 year old mother slept on it and found it to be very hard and uncomfortable. I even tried laying on it and I don't think I could have slept on it. We finally put the comforter from the bed on it to soften it up. I've even purchased a 2" thick foam topper to take with us the next time. On the other hand, I've found if you have a bad back that it seems better to have a firmer mattress. The other thing my mom had trouble with was getting out of the sofabed. You can't just roll over and out because of the sofa arms. She was a pro by the end of day 5, though!

If you end up taking fitted sheets, take a queen sheet for it. I thought all of the sofabeds in the studios were doubles, but our double sheet didn't fit on it. The queen sheet did.

My son is 13 but a very big boy, and found the sofa bed at AKV very uncomfortable for 4 nights. On the other hand he found the sofa bed at BWV to be extremely comfortable for 5 nights. Go figure! The sofa beds at boardwalk have to be older than the ones at AKV.

We didn't use the sofa bed. Reread my post- my mom slept in the sleeper CHAIR. That's a twin bed size bed and was very comfortable. We didn't even open the sleeper sofa.

I also own at BWV and believe all the sofa beds there are brand new within the last year or so.

That's good to hear. I was planning on DD sleeping on the chair so MIL could have the bigger bed. Looks like I'll be suggesting the chair to MIL.

Thanks for the input!

Sorry.

Is it the memory foam type with the trampoline support? It can't be one of the old bar types is it?:confused3

The sofa beds in the studios are full/double size. The sofa beds in the 1BRs are queen size.

The AKV sofa beds are the memory foam, same as SSR.

BWV and BCV have the same sofa beds that store the cushions when you fold it out. It is more of a mattress, but the couch itself is really hard and uncomfortable.

Not sure which ones OKW has.

VWL still has the oldest style with the bar.

My husband and I slept on the sofa bed at AKV. I wouldn't call it comfortable, but it was doable.

The sofa beds in the studios are full/double size. The sofa beds in the 1BRs are queen size.

In my studio, it was a queen. The double fitted sheet didn't come anywhere close to fitting on it, and the queen fitted sheet I had did fit on it. I wish I could remember my room number - maybe it was 5430? I know that it faced the pool and wasn't that far from the elevator that you can take to get down to the pool area. I thought it was strange, too, as everything I had heard about these studios was that the sofa bed was a full/double.

That is good to know. I wonder if all of the studios at AKV are like that.

I wondered that myself. I thought it was strange, because every written description I've ever seen in the Planner said they said the studio sofabed was a double like all of the other properties, but I could have sworn that I saw a "blueprint" of the room somewhere and they had a "Q" on the sofabed. Now I can't remember if I saw that on the DIS or somewhere else! Watch me take a queen fitted sheet the next time only to find out that it's too big!

This year when we stayed in AKLV we had a sleeper sofa that our daughter used. We did not have any complaints as far as comfort, but the first night we could not get it to open. I thought I was doing it wrong, but when I called for assistance the CM was not able to open it either. The CM left and called maintenance. I waited in the lounge, which was convenient since our room was the first room off the lounge area, until maintenance arrived. The maintenance person determined that the sofa was stuck so she called down for two more guys and a crowe bar. After a few grunts, prys, and laughter, the bed was opened in time for bed.

According to maintenance, the bed portion should not be made before putting it back into sofa mode. Apparently the sheets get caught in the hinges and make it near impossible to open up again. Well, luckily we did not have that problem again for the rest of the visit regardless of the fact that the bed was always made up by maid service anyway.
