Soccer Player Suspended for Pulling Hair

This girl should never be allowed to play college or professional soccer again.
"Never again"??? Come on... let's not get carried away here! Red card? Yeah. Suspended a game or two? Perhaps. But there was "roughing" going on back and forth on this one before the hair was yanked.

She needs to be banned. I've watched QUITE a bit of soccer (anyone remember the Chelsea vs Reading game where both of Chelsea's keepers (1st and 2nd team) got kicked in the head, and John Terry had to come on as keeper?) but I've NEVER seen anything that bad. Profession players have been banned for matches and fined for little stunts like a nasty tackle, but she blew that out of the water. She needs to be STRICTLY punished, there was no reason to practically snap a girl's neck among other things.

Think what you want, I'm not getting carried away. I have seen how girls get hurt by much less than this. My DD walked off the field with a black eye because the refs chose not to make calls that they should have. Did you see everything else she did? If it was that one incident it would be different. She's a nasty player, I'd never want to see my daughter on the same field as her.

However, you're not stopping at wanting them to make a call, you want a lifetime ban from the sport.

Yes, and I saw the stuff was was done to her too. Don't get me wrong, she want too far and deserved an ejection.

Fair enough, but the punishment needs to fit the crime. That's what the Yellow and Red are for. And as you know, anyone saying soccer isn't a "contact" sport doesn't have a clue about the sport.

I'm looking for a call for something far less serious. For something like this, I think she deserves to be banned. There are always going to be games where the refs let everything go and one of these days she's going to hurt someone much worse. Just my opinion.

I understand, but you also have to realize that what your advocating would be unparalleled in NCAA sports. Can you show me examples of on-field behavior that has resulted in "bannings" in the history of the NCAA???

On top of that, pulling the hair like that isn't very far up the "injury potential" scale compared to things like head butting, and punches to the head. I mean the analog in football is "only" a 15 yard penalty.. though I suppose in an extreme case it might get you booted from the game too.

I think that she should have received a red card, and possibly a couple of games suspension from her coach, but banned for life? Soccer is a very rough sport, and at the college level, rough play is not uncommon. I think that any player could be caught doing a little jersey pulling and shoving at one time or another---Nothing as vicious as the hair pulling, I'd hope, but I think everyone has their aggressive moments (even my darling angel children;)). She's been placed under tremendous scrutiny, and next time she steps on a field, hopefully she'll play as if the whole world is watching. I imagine we will be.

My son and I caught this the other day on ESPN, and as soon as we saw it he looked at me and said "Man, and I thought that men played dirty!" :rotfl:

It starts with the "chatter" in baseball. taunting the other batter/team. Professional sports have a way of encouraging that type of behaviour as long as it helps win and as long as the coaches and schools do not get in trouble for it.

Am I correct assuming that all the "incidences" in the one video did not happen over a short period of time? So everyone knew she was a brute, and they allowed it. Untill it got bad press.

Agree. BYU is not innocent and they looked pretty comfortable being able to play dirty.

Nasty.. And worse yet, at the time she was doing all of these things she looked very "proud" of herself..:sad2:

They were all from the same game.

Her response:
"I let my emotions get the best of me in a heated situation. I take full responsibility for my actions and accept any punishment felt necessary," Lambert said. "This is in no way indicative of my character or the soccer player that I am. I am sorry to my coaches and teammates for any and all damages I have brought upon them.

"I am especially sorry to BYU and the BYU women's soccer players that were personally affected by my actions. I have the utmost respect for the BYU women's soccer program and its players."

She should never step foot on a soccer field again. And don't tell me it's "out of character". Please. Heated situations reveal true character.

I absolutely agree. I watched the video, and it wasn't a single incident - she pulled hair, punched and kicked MULTIPLE times. If that's not indicative of her character, I don't know what is.

she should have been red carded the first time she touched the other player, it should not have been allowed to go on to have her pulling hair.

she doesn't need a suspension, she needs to be dropped from the team. she makes her team, her coach, and her school look HORRIBLE.

a group is only as strong as its weakest link, and with one bad player, you bring the whole team down to her level.

Yes soccer is physical but not to the point where you are capable of hurting someone. That is why there are cards and fouls given for dangerous play such as high kicking, coming in from behind etc. This particular girl created alot of dangerous situations by tripping, high kicking, coming in from behind etc. It wasnt just one time.

Maybe she got some back but that happens when its not controlled. I dont feel sorry one bit for her if someone retaliated. If they even did it wasnt nearly as bad as what she gave out.

We tend to find the teams or players who resort to this are ones that are getting outplayed.

But that's not how the game is officiated, even at the youth level.

Yes, they may do that if they think it's warranted. Last season after a vicious attack on a U. of Michigan hockey player (who had returned to play after suffering an off-ice skull fracture) that involved punching him on the head from behind and then slashing him as he laid on the ice, MSU kicked two players off the team. But they were not suspended by the NCAA even for that.

Hockey is different then soccer. The game is supposed to be officiated "that way" and things kept under control. A dirty play is a dirty play

actually, yes it is.

fifa, ncaa/nisoa, and the high school federation all agree that violent conduct and fighting is cause for ejecting a player.

this isn't hockey.
