Soccer haters? Really?
I say soccer haters as the common slang used by soccer supporters. It doesn't usually mean people who absolutely despise the sport in every way. Just people who generally don't pay attention unless the World Cup is happening. A polite term would be a casual supporter but I figured the post would be less effective saying that.

I just find soccer boring and a bit like watching paint dry. Various people enjoy different sport whether it be F1, NASCAR, Indycar, golf, baseball, basketball, football.......etc. I think most people watch the sports they enjoy, not to boost ratings. Also have NO idea how anyone measures the number of people watching when a typical cable company feed might include 200+ different stations.

Please tune in Disboarders. Even if you hate soccer with a passion, I'm asking you from the bottom of my soccer loving heart, to please watch the match Sunday night. It's only 2 hours long on a holiday weekend. The USA needs as much support as possible. The crowd in Houston will most likely be 90 percent Mexico fans who will (unfortunately) boo and curse out our players. Tuning into the match on tv helps the ratings break records and shows the national team that you care about them and support them. Mexico is our biggest rival and the matches are often fierce and rowdy. This USA team was undervalued throughout this tournament and has shown the country the heart that the fanbase was craving. The Gold Cup is our region's highest honor and is second to only the World Cup. So please, watch the upcoming final with your family and friends. Soccer unites the world and this team USA winning the tournament would be historic and a milestone going into the World Cup next summer. 🙏 ⚽️ 🏟 🇺🇸 🇲🇽
What if I’m rooting for Mexico?

Fox and Univision absolutely track how many people tune into their sports broadcasts. I agree everyone loves different sports for a variety of reasons. My point to the post isn't to insult people. It's to show that many Mexican Americans will be rooting for El Tri either in the stadium or by tuning into Univision. Many of Stars and Stripes fans want more games on over the air networks to grow the game and stations like FOX will be more likely to do that more often in the future (and hopefully CBS, NBC, and ABC as well) if ratings continue to rise. Univision consistently gets higher ratings than FOX when they both show the same match. Many times Univision will show the Mexican national team on tv than FOX will show the USMNT. This needs to change, especially with MLS going behind the Apple TV service (which killed regional stations showing matches). USA vs Mexico is the biggest international rivalry in our region (Concacaf). If people don't tune into this match, it will only show how people in this country don't really care about our national team. And that actually hurts given we are less than a year until the World Cup. Everything this year is meant to grow excitement about the sport and tournament. It's supposed to get more kids and families involved in soccer personally and in their communities. It's supposed to have a positive lasting effect on our society. Many in our country don't even know the match is happening on Sunday (during a national holiday weekend/perfect sports day celebrating our nation) or that the World Cup is happening next summer. I know I can't convince everyone to watch soccer consistently but it is a little frustrating that many won't watch our national team play but will have no problem watching minor sports in the Olympics or their obscure international tournaments. Just my opinion of course.

Everyone has the right to root for whoever they want obviously. I would hope that hispanics and latinos would consider tuning into FOX though to help the USMNT viewership efforts even if they are rooting for Mexico. EL Tri fans out number Stars and Stripes fans consistently in both stadium attendance and TV viewership in the USA. I hope that can slightly change in the future. I want our country to see the diversity of our team and how they represent our country with dignity and respect.

I think using an unpleasant clique slang word like hater might be best kept within the exclusive clique.
Casual interest (or support) is accurate for many of us and the bonus is it's polite.

We have been watching. Luna did a great job last night! I was not expecting much with Pulisic not playing but the entire team has stepped up.

I would love to be at NRG Stadium on Sunday, but I'll have to settle for my television at home. It's going to be a great soccer weekend for me, with the two FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals on Saturday and this game on Sunday. I may tune in to the late game tomorrow night to pull for Chelsea.
