I should not have signed my son up for soccer without looking at the price of cleats first! OMG! Sticker shock. I was looking at paying half of what they are going to cost me. Sure $30 is not that much, but when you are on a budget, it is.

Does anyone have any idea's as to where I can get a pair cheap? I checked Ebay and with shipping I could almost buy a new pair. My friend gave him a pair of 1's (he needs 13's), but they are just too big.

Thanks!

resale shop?

dunhams usually has great deals on Sun & Mon. Look at the ad, they are usually boxed and will show the Sun/Mon price and what they go to afterwards. Also, ask your coach if he got a Dick's Sporting Goods team packet. You can usually get 10% or 20% off of certain things. Have you looked at Dick's online, in the clearance? Also we were just at Toys R Us and they had a bunch of clearance soccer stuff in the aisles, I think they were shinguards. Maybe look in their shoe section (if yours has one) and see if they've discounted them there. Dick's has a clearance and so does Dunham's in store, you don't know what they have until you look.

Target? We're a big soccer family, so we just hand them down, so I can't remember how much I payed for the smaller sizes, but I know I didn't pay more than $20 at Modells or Sports Authority.

Also, try the soccer organization. Our town asked for donations of soccer cleats throughout the last fall season. There were tons donated and anyone could have a pair if you contacted them. Check consignment shops also.

Before you go out and spend any money make sure they are to big. After putting soccer socks on they may fit just fine. My hubby is a college soccer coach, DD has played for years and now younger DD is playing. The soccer socks are very very thick! Younger DD likes to wear 2 pairs of socks..one thin so that her shin guards don't "Stick" to her legs and then the soccer socks over them. Try on the cleats with the soccer socks and shin guards. Your DS may want to wear 2 pairs of socks like my little one.

Unfortunately, we don't have a Dunham's. We have Dick's so I will look in their clearance section. They didn't have any on line that were his size.

No Sports Authority or Modells either. I will check Target. Walmart didn't have any.

Our Rec Department isn't smart enough to do anything like this. I talked to someone involved and asked where I should go and they told me Walmart.

He practiced last night in them with soccer socks on. Although, you are right about the 2nd pair ~ he may like that. He wasn't too keen on the feel of the shin guard strap under his foot.

Did you try Walmart? I just bought DD there and half of the team had the same shoes LOL!! they were $13

when DD was in kindergarten and did her one season of soccer we were able to get her cleats at payless. we got them during the buy 1 get 1 1/2 off and i got her school sneakers and got 1/2 off the cleats. i think they were probably $30 for both pair of shoes.

I don't know soccer, one of the soccer mom's can tell you but what about a pair of baseball cleats? Our football coach told us to just put them in cleats, they didn't have to be football ones, no need to buy a new pair just for football as they both serve the same purpose. If that will do, try baseballsavings.com It's the end of baseball season now, all their cleats are on sale. There is also fogdog.com and mcsports. I think on one of the deal a day sites you might be able to find a % off at fogdog. I've never bought from them though, don't know what their shipping is like.

As a youth soccer coach most of my little ones 6 and unders do not wear cleats. They wear sneakers with good tread. The only thing that is required are the shin guards. My kids only like the ones that slide into the sock.

Target has cleats for $15 dollars and the thrift stores usually have them too. Ask moms on the team if they have a pair they are not using or can hand me down. All of ours are given to neighbors as soon as they have out grown them.

I'm not sure about other leagues, but ours won't let the kids wear baseball cleats. Baseball cleats have an extra "nub" right at the front of the shoe that they say could cause injury in soccer. We were able to tell parents that their kids could wear them if they cut that one off with a knife though!

Anyway, as far as purchasing the soccer cleats, you can get them at Walmart for under $20. I still get those for my youngest, but now in high school soccer, it seems to be cool to sport those crazy neon Nikes and whatnot!! LOL

I feel your pain. I have 3 that play and a husband. I have gotten cleats at Payless and Target. We also have gotten some from a place called Play it Again Sports. I don't buy expensive cleats for my dd as she is so young, however for my now 10 year old I had to buy better ones because he kept "blowing" out the sides of the cheap ones. He plays travel so practices and plays a lot.

Please do not use baseball cleats as they do cause injury to other players. If nothing else let them play in their sneakers.

I wonder how hard the extra nub would be to cut off of the baseball cleats????? Hmmmm, interesting idea. Afterall, he's not going to be wearing them again.

Like I said before, our Walmart doesn't carry soccer cleats.

I am going to check Goodwill tomorrow.

I do have an idea for a new business though ~ thanks Mommyto2! Sports re-sale shop would go over big here!

A couple of our sports stores (Sports Authority and Big 5) always have sales in the fall for about $25-30 you get children's cleats, shin guards and a soccer ball...pretty good deal. You might watch the papers for sales like that...

We don't have either of those stores here.

If you have a local "Play it Again Sports" store, they always have a bin of soccer cleats for cheap. They're used, but in good shape.

I think we bought the kids' cleats at Target for around $20 a few years ago. Watch for a sale.

This past sunday's newspaper had a Dick's Sporting Goods circular with a $15 off $59.99 or more athletic footwear purchase.
It has to be a single pair for $59.99 though.

as I said, I don't know a thing about soccer, just know what our football coach said. I wonder about turf shoes though. They seem to be just like tennis shoes but with more/deeper tread. I wonder if those would work instead?

OP play it again sports is great. They closed our local one but we can travel 20 min to the other one. We picked up a $260+ bat for $60. We did our research before hand and knew that the bat hadn't changed, except for paint scheme, in the past three years. They have so much to choose from and like any resale shop the inventory is always changing. MC Sports is another one to watch (even online) for sales. Friends of ours picked up a new $200+ bat for under $100 (half off and they had coupons on top of it). And to think I cringed at the $60

Walmart has them for inexpensive (like $15) and I just bought my dd size 1.5 from Hibbetts for $15 for Nike brand. Dicks also has some inexpensive ones. It is honestly easier to find cheap ones for boys than for girls.
