Soccer cleats for 4 year old

Like others have said, the little ones don't need cleats at this age, but if you can find a pair for that little, and they fit reasonably well, certainly go for it. I was the Registrar for our town's youth program for 4 years, and what we would typically see is that the 1st timers who had older siblings who played, always had cleats, and the 1st timers who were the oldest child in their family, or whose older siblings had not played, wore regular sneakers.

Keep it as inexpensive as you can now. DS is now a 15 YO, playing year round for his HS team and his club team (as well as indoors). He generally goes through 2-3 pairs of cleats in a calendar year, and I can tell you we are not paying only $30-$40 for them. But he's in them 4-6 times a week, so we make sure they are fitted properly, and he rotates through 2 pairs, to give them time to 'air out'

I just wanted to add I am coaching U5s and they are required to have cleats. Try freecycle or craigslist

The early year cleats were always the cheaper ones (payless walmart etc) Once in Middle school/high school they were practicing/playing 2 hours a day 5 days a week we went with better(more expensive) cleats. Soccer cleats are usually thin form fitting no cushion I always bought sole inserts to cushion the knees a bit.

I agree to go cheap but to be sure they fit him well. They are not required here but when DS played at that age, ever kid did have them so he may be sad not to have them. We are 2nd year baseball and we still go cheap. We have done starter and they were fine. We don't do used. We rarely get more than a season out of shoes anyway soooo. We just got DS his baseball cleats at Academy Sport. They were Rawlings and were 17.99 and I had a 10.00 off coupon so 7.99 and the kid was beyond excited because they have changeable shoestrings included:goodvibes The field however was full of first time players in their nikes, but they did not run any better than DS in his 8.00 shoes:)
