We are off to Disney in a week and wondered about one of the new attractions called Soarin'. Has anyone tried it? I'm a little bit of a chicken when it comes to rides, but this looked good and sounded more like a movie-type of attraction. Thanks for any info.

Yep, it's a movie and a ride. You simulate being in a hang glider flying over various parts of California. The only scary part might be if you're afraid of heights since your seat raises from the floor of the theater, if you're in the front row it get's sort of high, you look down and about all you see is the screen.

There is a bit of gentle swooping around, but it's neither spinning and pressure (like Mission Space) nor yanking and falling (like a roller coaster). My wife skips Soarin' because she can get dizzy on a desk chair, but everyone else in the family loves it.

DH and I enjoyed Soarin, but I did a double take because as we left the ground, quite a few kids left their footwear, and I thought "oh oh!" But you return to the same place, these kids must have known that and wanted to really feel like they were Soaring!

Bobbi :flower:

I'm the world's biggest wuss - even the teacups do me in - and I LOVED Soarin'!! Yes, you do go up pretty high (I was in the third row, though, so I didn't go as high as the first two rows!!) but I really loved it! A wonderful ride...

I'm right up there with DVCLiz... I can't handle the simulator rides and get dizzy at the drop of a hat.. but .. I loved Soarin. DH swears he still has bruises from my iron clad grip of his arm, but it was really unnecessary -- just my being a big chicken. If you can get in the front row, it would be the best -- otherwise you see folks feet dangling in front of you. Even with that it's an incredible flight.

I am a certified card-carrying chicken when it somes to rides (have only done Splash Mtn. once), and I suffer from motion sickness, so that gives me a wonderful excuse for things I am afraid of. I had heard how greatl Soarin is, and I was determined to ride it before I learned too much about it. I rode in May, and then again when we went back in June and will ride again next week.

Give it a shot once. I only have to close my eyes when you "glide" to the left or "glide" to the ride. I do fine with just going straight ahead. And in case you don't already know, go do this early. FastPasses are usually gone around lunchtime for the whole day and then the standby line is well up to 90 minutes or more.

I usually get sick on Simulator rides, think Star Wars, but from what I have read, this ride is not like that. Am I reading this correctly?

Soarin' is amazing and you must at least try it once! My Mom went on this last trip with us and just like when Splash Mountain first came out we had to plead with her to try it. She was one of those crazy people looking at the steps just as you head up the hill for the last drop on Splash Mnt and thinking about trying to get out of the log! Needless to say...as soon as we dropped and hit the water she loved it and was heading back to the line! She did the same thing with Soarin'. I keep telling her to trust me...I would never steer her wrong! She loved it!

Very cool ride. I don't really like roller coasters and such. Soarin' is nothing like that. Just a smooth, gliding feeling. And just remember you're not really going anywhere! Even my 7 & 5 year olds loved it!

Another thing we noticed, when you "soar" past the forests, you can smell a pine scent. Very cool effect. :sunny:

That's what I was wondering too. Going on the Star Wars Simulator makes me dizzy and woozie ....Blah....
And I'll admit, I can't handle those spinning Teacups either.
But, Every other attraction/ride at WDW is okay and great with me, even Mission Space !
Hopefully I won't chicklen out.....cluck cluck cluck.

My DD11 barely rides anything outside of Fantasyland, and she dragged us on Soarin' 8x this past vacation!
BTW They make you leave your flip flops on the floor so they can't fall off and hurt someone.
The 1st row goes about 40 ft in the air, and the rest are lower, if you are scared of heights, ask for 3rd row... but I promise you won't even notice the heights.
You can smell oranges, pine trees and ocean spray, and you wind up in Disneyland during the fireworks...
It was truly amazing!

We've been on it a number of times. Great ride!! My sister is afraid of heights, and she was terrified the whole time! Eyes closed, breathing hard, etc. There are three rows of "swings" and when they move into position, the top "swing" is very high off the ground.

The view from your seat is breathtaking! I especially like ********* and ********!! :) [Didn't want to spoil it for you!!]

Have fun!

I am the same as a some of the other posters, I am a big wuss and suffer from motion sickness and I LOVED it. I found that if I felt even a twinge of motion sickness all I had to do was look to the side of the screen and I felt better. We were dead center both times.

I'm not a big fan of simulators I will do them for the family but it takes a couple of hours to get over that sick feeling. Soarin didn't bother me at all. If you are afraid of heights it can be a little scary. We thought this was a great ride and wished it was longer.

you have a seltbelt on, and there are extra precautions for children under a certain height (similar to a stroller seatbelt that comes through the legs)

Soarin is a religious experience. I am from CA so I've been riding this since DCA opened. In fact it is the only thing really worthwhile in that park. It was sooo amazing, so beautiful, that I cried. THIS is what "the magic" is about. You must NOT miss this.

Second place for ultimate "magic" experience is Mickey's Philharmagic in Fantasyland. I REALLY hope they bring that to WDW soon!

P.S., when you fly over the Golden Gate Bridge you can see my house! tee hee

UHHH I think WDW already has this one. I hope so because I ran into the show to get out of the heat. Philharmagic is a great show........
