i a deathly afraid of heights. if i rode in the lowest section to the ground how high off the ground would i be?

You're actually only 40 feet off the ground, but the intent is to make you feel like you're 800 ft off the ground. That feeling is created by mesh seats and fans blowing on you, so you feel like you're soaring up.

I am a HUGE ride chicken and also very afraid of heights. I had NO PROBLEM on Soarin, in fact, it turned out to be my favorite ride there. I will say this, though: they have a seat belt, and then a between-the-leg restraint intended for small children. I put the between-the-leg restraint on, even though I'm 35 years old and weigh 125 lbs! I wasn't taking any chances that I'd slip out....I feel ridiculous admitting that, but that's how nervous I was...and it was just fine. You can't tell how high up you are because it's dark, so you can't tell that you're 40 feet up..

I say, buckle up and enjoy it!

I'd say about 10 feet off the floor, but it's hard to say because the illusion of the ride is you are very high. Sometimes it's believable So if you think even the illusion of being high might scare you, I wouldn't ride it.

My DH has an issue with heights and was terrified on this ride and will not get back on it which is a shame b/c I love it! But he's also a non-flyer too, we drive to WDW since he won't get on a plane again!

You get lifted up in the dark. It's not far. All you see is a movie screen, anyway (and other people's feet, if you aren't in the front row). It isn't like you're up in the air looking down.

Not a big deal in any way.

I'm deathly afraid of heights!!!!! I mean I can't even ride in one of those glass elevators (even the 2 story ones in the mall).

But....Soaring is my absolute favorite attraction!!! :cloud9: (It may be why I'm so addicted to WDW)

The only problem I had was at the end when they shoot you up into the fireworks after "soaring" over the park.

I just close my eyes during that part and then get right back in line to ride it again. You'll be fine:)

I'm also afraid of heights. I hate those stairs that you can see through when you walk up them. I can't look over the edge of the balcony at the mall. I hate flying and real life heights in general. For some reason roller coasters don't bother me. Soarin' is very tame and is my favorite ride of all time. I would never hang glide in real life (although I wish I were brave enough).

I dont really think I am afraid of heights, I been on a airplane a few times but for some reason soarin really scared me. I used the seat belt in the middle as well and the whole ride I clenched onto the handles of my seat, I looked over to my cousin and she was sitting there nicely with her hands on her lap and I was so afraid I couldn't wait for that ride to be over! I guess it just depends on the person, I think it was only like a 5 minute ride prolly less so give it a try

Keeping in mind that your head and eyes will actually be about 2.5 feet higher than these measurements:
Row A rises 40 feet
Row B rises 25 feet
Row C rises 10 feet

I also afraid of height. Have to say this is one of my favorite rides.

My first time I actually became breathless a few times. On my second time no problem. You really feel like your gliding over California.

Awesome ride!

I am afraid of heights--really afraid!!! I stay on the bottom two floors at the resorts, don't like bridges at all, and will NOT fly!!! However, DD and DS talked me into going on soarin'-and I loved it!!! They wanted to sit in the front row. Me not knowing about it, I had just agreed to the highest row! It was too fun to be scared. We are going back in a little over three weeks and I will be back on it again... probably still trying to get on the front row:thumbsup2

The only thing to remember is if you sit in the top row, don't look down. this was in cali, not FL one, so i can't be sure if its the same, but from the top row you could see the two rows below you, but not the floor :P

But if you are really really afraid, the bottom row will be fine. You'll be too busy enjoying the veiws to notice anyway ^_^

Both rides are exactly the same. The first row goes the highest and is out front, the second and third follow behind, lower, and the feet of the riders in the rows ahead are visible during the ride. I know it is easier said than done, but, tell yourself over and over that it is just a movie. You aren't really flying over mountains and valley, oceans and rivers or Disneyland. It is just a movie. You are brought upward and outward toward the screen but you are not very high actually and you cannot tell by looking how high you really are. Give it a try and if you cannot handle it just close your eyes, but, try not to give into your fears on this one. You will be missing a unique experience that is totally without danger in reality.

i dont know where you people are getting your heights from. i swear i am thousands of feet in the air. we are higher than mountains, for petes sake.

I have (had?) a pretty serous fear of heights. I was worried about soarin' the first time. Luckily we got the third row, and I kept my eyes shut for the ride up, and held on to the handles. It really wasn't bad. I actually think it (and other rides at WDW) have been therapeutic for me, now I really don't think I have much of a fear of heights any more. Not that I'll be doing any rock climbing any time soon, but the old triggers aren't a problem any more.

So, my advice, try it. And try it again.

i am very very scared of heights, but i LOVE soarn! you are not that high off the ground, its the movie itself that makes me scared, you feel like you are falling at times (atleast i do) but it is really cool and very fun...go on it and you will love it! this is coming from a ride chicken :goodvibes
