I would really like to go on Soarin', but, I'm some what of a chicken on rides, if it's not in Fantasyland, I usually skip it. I was wondering if anyone else went on it who was a little scared, and ended up liking it.

I am quite the ride chicken. I rode Soarin' in Disneyland in November '04 and loved it. When we went to WDW in October of '05 I completely chickened out for some reason. This past trip in February, I decided I was going to try to stop being a chicken. I'm happy to say that I conquered BTMRR, POTC, AND Soarin' and loved all 3. If you're apprehensive, I recommend asking to sit in row 3 because it doesn't go as high as the other 2 rows.

Exactly, how far up do you go, because heights aren't my best friend?

I admit I was a little freaked out the first time I went on Soarin'. We were in the second row and it took me a while to get used to my feet dangling in mid-air. After a minute or so though I really liked it and ended up going on it again the next day as well.
I do suggest requesting the third row if you are not sure if you will like it. Although the ride isn't as great IMO, you are closer to the ground. I believe the first row goes up about 40 feet but I am not sure of the heights of the second and third rows.

Heights are not my friend. Ferris wheels freak me out. The first time I rode Soarin' (gotta ride every Disney attraction - well, not Astro Orbitor), we were in the front row. I thought I'd be a trooper and went on it. It's fantastic. Yes, it does have some "moments" (like going over that mountain) but it's really something that should not be missed. Definitely ask to be in the third row, though, for your first trip. Wish I would have done that and then did the first row the second time. Just remember, it's a movie. That's what was going through my mind - "it's just a movie, it's just a movie".

I am not much of a ride taker. I did go on Soarin' in September and loved it. We had the second row. If I looked up I could see the people's feet above us dangling. To me it was nothing like a roller coaster. It really is a pretty gentle ride. I'm looking forward to going on it again at the end of the month.
Now if you ever refer to me going on Mission Space--absolutely no way!! :scared:

Let me begin by saying that I am the queen of the coaster chickens. I was a little scared the first time I went on Soarin' b/c of the height factor. DH and I wound up on the third row. I was a little panicked when the thing took off to move us into position for the ride, but as soon as the video started playing I got caught up in it. It was WONDERFUL!!! I'm hoping for a first row seat when we go back next time so I won't have feet over my head! :teeth:

I believe you would love it.

As someone else said, the first row goes up 40 feet. I'd say you probably go around 30 feet (maybe a little less) by sitting in the 3rd row. I've sat in row 1 and row 3, and because of my fear of heights, row 3 was the better choice for me. YMMV.

I do not ride roller coasters and forget the tea cups in the MK!

BUT I did love Soarin.' The entire first time, first row I screamed much to the chagrin of my teenage DSs. And of course, I was repeating in my head, "It's only a ride, it's only a ride."

A little scary but delightful!

When my youngest is saying, "Wow, we're really up high!" Look!!" Not me, I just concentrated on the screen.

Enjoy! :goodvibes

I too, am not the adventurous type... Also, not fond of heights.

We rode Soarin and ended up on the top. I have to admit the first minute was frightening, but I really enjoyed it and very glad I did it. I would do it again in a minute! :cool1:

so if you're NOT afraid of heights (like me) row one or two is better? or if you are (my DH) is row 2 a good compromise, or should we definitely go for row 3 for him?

It depends on how terrified of heights he is. If he's petrified, he would probably be better on row three. If he's just bothered, row 2 would probably be fine- keeping in mind that everbody's different.

I am absolutely petrified of heights. However, i managed to ride it twice. First time in row 1 (didnt realise how high it would be!!). Second time i requested row 3 and even put on the kiddie belt between my legs!!
To be honest, you are high whatever so the row really doesnt matter. Ive done it twice, but im not sure ill ever do it again.
Just need to pluck up the courage for the 80ft drop in EE now!!

There's no reason to be afraid of Soarin'. I am the biggest wuss when it comes to thrill rides, and I'm actually afraid of flying (but am willing to brave an airplane to get down to Orlando because it's worth it), and after getting used to being lifted in the air during the first few seconds of Soarin', I loved it and it wasn't at all scary.

Well I guess everyone has their demon and this one is mine.

I love all the Coasters, the higher, the faster the better. But for some reason and best I can figure its the visual part of it, it totally made me sick. I had to look away to keep from barfing. I could not watch any of it and wanted off so badly I was miserable.

I was a little apprehensive at first but really there is nothing to it. You are taken up in the air a little and your feet dangle but it's exhilirating. I love love love it and can't wait to do it again. :woohoo:

I am the BIGGEST chicken in the world and I HATE heights (I got nervous on a step ladder earlier today). I LOVE Soarin'!!!!! I started off in Row 3 and was very nervous. After riding, the bottom was disappointing, I wanted to go higher. The next time I rode it, I was in Row 2, which was great. THe third time I rode, I was on the top row and in the middle...WOW!!!!! It was absolutely incredible!!!!! I want to build a Soarin' at my house so I can ride it every day!!! Try it...start at the bottom. I promise you, it is a beautiful ride!!!

I'm afraid of almost any ride but I tried Soarin and LOVED IT!!! My sister met up with us a few days later and she is more of a chicken than I am. I had to convince her to try the ride because it is so awesome I didn't want her to miss the experience. She did it and also LOVED IT. So please experience this wonderful ride!!! You wouldn't want to miss it!
