Soarin' shut down in November?

I'm completely bummed. And I'm in the camp that a week's notice IS NOT FAIR. All people who aren't affected can say what you wish....I
am still sad for myself and my girls. And nothing will change that. Is there a number we can call just so our concerns may be heard?

I always get the feeling Disneyland does not really care about none local folks. They only have 5 day pass and if you stay longer you need to buy a ticket a full price. You spend thousands on air fair, hotel and tickets and then they pull this. Not letting you know know until a few weeks before you go that major attractions are down. Really makes me annoyed. Here is is their 60th anniversary and people are making the extra effort to go and see the park. Then they pull this. It does not really effect local annual pass holders as they go many times of a year. No so for people who go once a year or are making a trip for the first time.

Karma....... plain and simple...... Karma.

Well that escalated quickly.

Don't understand the harsh responses here. People have a right to be frustrated by a last second closure, even if it is for a sound reason. I don't believe that anyone at Disney maliciously plans stuff like this of course, but that doesn't mean people shouldn't feel frustrated or complain when it happens, especially people who are traveling from distance and are spending thousands of dollars and who may not be back for years, if ever. To claim karma on these people is uncalled for.

EXACTLY! That is what this forum is for. I get tired of seeing certain responses to people that are not nice. A lot of times I won't even get involved in a thread because of the nastiness. People have every right to vent on here and when others make it seem like their frustration isn't valid it really annoys me!

Agreed that ppl have the right to vent, but lately that vent is hovering a lot of threads, and I for example started avoiding reading some "extreme" vents because when you are here planning your trip sure you want to know what's going on but you also want your trip to be magical and wonderful, and some comments and vents stirred you to double guess if you are going to have fun.

So many thinks happening , increased prices, AP mess, closures, Halloween having less offerings, etc... So is totally understandable, but the amount of ppl who are verbal about how awful Disney is and that they are done with the park is just depressing...

Sure we are all different and have different circumstances, some of us go only once per year, some other go 3 or 4 times per year, some are locals who go even more often. So yeah ppl can vent , but its just frustrating to see it over 30% of the threads here.

I don't think it's about validity of the frustration but some return complaints no matter what can get tiresome. I also think that it depends on the person affected. What I mean by this is for me PERSONALLY , one ride or even a few would never stop me from going to Disneyland or even WDW , because again for me PERSONALLY the value isn't centered around specifics but rather the entire trip. Granted on the same foot anyone else is entitled to feel differently and spend their vacation and income as they see fit.

I guess the positive side would be to at least know ahead of time that it's down , even if it is short notice. This is coming from someone who is the most worst case scenario negative thinker LOL.

I think venting and discussion is always welcome but with that not everything needs to be taken personal. Just because some side with one view and some with another , does not mean one is more right , it's just a space to offer different viewpoints so the individuals can then choose based on this and other factors what works for them. Being disappointing is understandable but getting in a huff over everything all the time , that is what makes no sense.

Yeah, but when someone says that a bunch of favorites being down during your trip is "Karma": i.e. the universe punishing you...I think then it might be okay to take it personally.

I totally agree, and I feel the posters who were voicing their concerns over the new closures were not overreacting or being overly passionate in their responses. They seemed appropriate and reasonable in expressing disappointment. I would be disappointed too.

Yep. Following up from my comment above ... on the other hand, the posters who defended the closures seem to have taken things too far and almost disagreed and defended just to be argumentative. Sometimes people just want to vent a little. If you don't have it in your heart to empathize or add a helpful perspective, move on.

I think you do the right thing then ... don't read the post. ;)

If it were merely sympathy prople wanted, it would have been easy to find. I totally sympathize, I have had my favorite rides go down right before I visited. I get it.

But some here don't just express disappointment, they accuse DL executives of basically lying, plotting to ruin vacations, and unable to run a park. This is where the push back comes from. Not disappointment, which I understand. But these accusations, which are not founded in any kind of reality.

No one here has any idea the reasons why things happen as they do in the parks when it comes to operational concerns. Plain and simple.

Would we all like more advance notice? Of course. Can you feel disappointed? Of course. Should you make baseless accusations about park operations that you know nothing about? No.

My goodness, imagine the firestorm here if Disney put off a repair and someone was injured! Have mercy, there would be no pity for them.

Really, you think it is ok to threaten harm against DL execs? I think the harshest response has been from people who are angry at the closures. That is pretty passionate.

Meanwhile, I have said more than once that it is a total bummer to have a closure and I think you have every right to be disappointed. Just don't take that disappointment and start making wild accusations. Not been argumentative, just reminding people there are operational decisions that have to be made. Better to be safe.

But yes, it does hurt when a favorite is under refurb. The Space Mountain refurb that took forever still stings a bit.

I see the post you're talking about now; I may have skimmed past it earlier. Yes that was a big reaction, but an obvious vent. Plus he didn't threaten harm against DL execs in his post. He stated he wouldn't go there on a forum. Obviously no one thinks it's okay to threaten harm about ride closures.

Karma poster here....

I didn't mean to offend anyone. For those that have been offend, please accept my apology.

The Refurbishment List is ALWAYS a hot topic.

No one is threatening any execs. That was ad hominem and reductive fallacy arguments by someone reaching for moral high ground. And that stuff insults my intelligence and the intelligence of everyone on these boards.

Confession. Did I vent some pretty passionate feelings? Yes. Did I challenge an exec to a steel cage match? No. Are there people here who wait to ambush anyone who disparages poor executive decisions by Disney? As long as I've been on these boards.

I guess the only point to make is this: for us who DON'T live in SoCal, who DON'T get to visit the parks every week or month, who DON'T get to experience an attraction next week if it's down this week, who happen to be planning what will probably (and unfortunately) be our last trip to Disney for a long time.....Soarin' going down with a few days notice is a pretty big deal. People like us, we just want everything to be as perfect as it can be. Why? Because we can't go back and fix it next week.

I try to look on the bright side when i see closures. Like maybe less people will be there at that time because of it. We're going for a short trip Monday and Tuesday of next week, and i am a little bummed. But i'm sure we will still have an awesome time.

I sometimes wonder how people survived before the internet. Back then you found out what was on the refurbishment list the day you arrived at the park and got in line. Does it suck that it's going down at such short notice? Yes, but unless you are sitting in the board room, you do not know the reasons. Remember last year when all 3 mountains went down + Nemo subs all on the same day? That was CAL OSHA's decision, not Disney's.

As for the Karma comment someone made, some people here honestly do nothing but complain every chance they get and constantly threaten that they won't be coming back again, then a week later they are back complaining. You can't make everyone happy.

You can't make everyone happy.

That's it! You got it right there! There is no way Disney will ever be able to make everyone happy. Refurbishments have to take place. No matter when Disney makes the choice to do them it is going to fall during someone's vacation.

Soarin is one of our favorites. Just found out that it will be down for our entire trip. :( I'm a little sad and will definitely miss it but my family and I will still be able to spend time together and have a blast. Of course, I will still be secretly hoping that it was mistakenly added to the list or that they change the time frame for the refurb but if not we'll still be just fine!

Just wondering if anyone has been on since this closure? Thinking there would be a whole thread if they had installed the new soarin over the world movie, so wondering what this was for then? :)

I rode it on November 16th and it was still Soarin' Over California.

Got a bit choked up at the end as I thought it may be my last time seeing it before it changes to Over The World. It's my fav ride :)

We rode it last week and the only difference I noticed was the replaced screens they did earlier in the year. Thank Goodness, they did that, last year when we rode it, the screen was horrible with several blemishes. And the video wasn't smooth either. This year it was beautiful. Glad we got to do it again before it switches to the World.
