Soarin' Over the World opening date?

Actually I've read that they want to debut the new film at shanghai first and that's mid June, so look for late June, early July. This is still just a rumor though.

I've heard rumbling of sometime before Fourth of July, but take that with a grain of salt until anything's announced.

I'm seriously bummed it will be closed for my upcoming trip! Last time I went it hadn't even been built yet and I wanted to ride it this time!

Does anyone think that they will still offer the Classic Soarin' Film at times? Kind of like going to Start Tours--you never know quite which one you will get?

Wait - so Soarin is closed right now? I didn't think it was completely closed down during the addition.

In a word, no.

In a word, no.

Agreed.
But, it would take virtually no time (I mean just some keystrokes on a computer) to change the experience.
The only hiccup would be loading in the various special fragrances used for each experience.

I'm really glad they are switching to a new movie. I found the old one somewhat boring..the ride great the movie not so much.

1) If I wanted to see all about CA I would go to DLR..though I understand it was a way of advertisement and far cheaper to utilize the same film in both locations (IMO and not intended to offend anyone)

2) The prior movie had been used since Feb 2001..they didn't change it when they opened the ride in WDW

3) At least in WDW (not so much in DLR) it makes soooo much more sense to feature a film that has clips from around the world considering what EPCOT is mostly about

I know they are replacing both DLR and WDW with the new Soarin' around the world so maybe not seeing landmarks from their own state may disappoint some in DLR.

Though I have to admit if I was going to WDW right now I would be majorily bummed at not being able to ride it.

Imagine waiting an hour or more in line thinking you were getting to see the new one and ... SURPRISE! It's the old film!

No thanks!

Yeah, that wouldn't go over well!

OP I think it will be open sooner than later. I think it will be early June. Hopefully they will do soft openings in May. Now, the Frozen ride? Who knows, I have a feeling that will take a while.

It would not have to be a surprise.

It would be great if the film was different each time you went on it - similar to Star Tours and TOT. It would definitely keep it fresh and the computer system could handle the different affects easily.

There was a certain charm about the Soarin movie. There were about 4 hidden Mickey's- which I don't remember.....I think one was near a red balloon near the golfers and another on the mountain.......and the kayakers were friends of the filmmaker. He called up people who he knew had kayaks and they all met at a spot at a certain time, put their boats in the water and waited for the flyover. The so called orange grove were really avocado trees because a cold snap at that time killed off a lot of the orange grove leaves. They got permission from the Navy to film the ship and plane flyover for that one day only, during that one hour,so if the filmmaker couldn't make it at that time,or if it didn't film well, it wouldn't be in the movie. Found all this out during a backstage tour. The Soarin movie was the idea of a few people and they had to prove they could create it,almost like a Mom and Pop kind of situation. The new movie,I'm sure, will be quite wonderful,a flyover of many countries probably. But it won't have that backstory of a few people believing in something and setting out to make it happen.

Visit the thread in my signature for up to date info on all openings for upcoming WDW attractions.

It is said to debut in Shanghai first so looking likely for end of June early July.

We will be there the end of June. If it opens while we are there I wonder if we will be able to get FP for it?
