Soarin' Over California Refurb?

I saw the Fresh Baked video review. He wasn't real thrilled about it because it's virtually the same film, only digital. I, myself, was pretty happy to hear that. I thought the original show was phenomenal and didn't need a big change. The film will now be cleaner, less grainy, and won't have those projector hairs that often get in the film. I'm looking forward to seeing this again. But I'm also looking forward to seeing the new finish on the outside.

I have. The CM's have new uniforms and they've painted the outside and new signs. Otherwise the ride is the same. They have fixed the movie. The old print had scratches and dust, this one looked clean.

It looks fresh from paint to clean video, but no major changes. I'm okay with that since I love the ride the way it is. I honestly didn't notice any cosmetic changes, but that could be because I rode it at 1:45 on Saturday morning.

Thanks I was glad they cleaned up the film. Not sure I'll like it when they change the film and the music!

I'm really looking forward to seeing it now that's been cleaned up :)

Is it a definite that they are changing the film and music? If so, does anyone know when?

The TWDC people who were hanging around on the first day said later this year. If you look at a picture of the sign out front, "Over California" can be easily removed.

The video was definitely more crisp and the smell system seems to be stronger (I'm guessing buildup in the lines needed to be cleaned out). Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing some new video perhaps from destinations around the world. However, in its current iteration, I love the scenes of the jets flying by and the fireworks at the end.

I love the original so am excited to see it in it's new and improved form in a couple of days! It would be neat to see something new too - like maybe new films seasonally? But the old classic the rest of the year. I don't know ... best of both worlds maybe!

I rode it a few times last week. I agree the smell is stronger in some parts. I can't confirm, but I really thought they swapped a few scenes around, like how they show different segments for star tours randomly. Did they always do that?

Aloha,

Recommend to read today's (Tuesday, 26 May) Andy Castro's Dateline Disneyland review at Micechat. From what I have read to date, same show, 4K digital projection vice 70 mm. New enhanced audio. Clean projection but not as crisp as 70 mm. So we enjoy a cleaner film but with less sharpness with improved audio.

Are there 2 different main street endings? One with electrical parade and one with fireworks and tinkerbell, or is it the same sequence that I am selectively remembering differently?

OK, Just watched old and new side by side on youtube and it seems the same, maybe more vivid fireworks and tinkerbell effects though.

It's the same sequence, and it's the Christmas Parade not the Electrical Parade.

As others have said, it's the exact same movie, just cleaner. AND they finally got rid of the annoying black spots in the screen! :) I also thought the smells seemed stronger than they used to, as has been mentioned.

I thought that the orange was so strong that it overpowered everything that came after. Did anyone notice the new seatbelts? They're now doubled over and mine tangled and didn't retract when I unbuckled. I tried to fix it but the CMs shooed us out. I wonder how they'll hold up over time when they start to fray and stretch.

With Disney's resources they should have multiple shows running on Soaring the way Star Tours does. You could really turn that ride into something incredible if they would put more effort into it. I like the ride the way it is now but it could be so much more.

Glad the annoying spots are gone! They needed to fix that for a long time. I like it the way it is except the Christmas ending. I usually go in the summer so seeing it suddenly be Christmas time ruins the feeling that I'm really there.

Now the really important question: is the Safely Spiel Video with Patrick still there?
