Soarin' Over California height requirement

I thought the same thing for my son (especially being autistic) and also thought the same thing with TOT but he LOVES it and calls it the up and down ride, and also loves the Matterhorn calling it the mountain ride (due to speech problems he comes up with his own names for things)

For him I think the lines and waiting in the scary situation was more difficult that anything else. The line for TOT is pretty scary, we almost left before going on it but he ended up living the ride but being scared in line.

I only noticed because my DS5 was trying to lean forward to look down and my husband panicked and instinctively yelled at him to sit back (it really frightened my husband - now he insists that my DS5, who is our youngest, sits next to HIM on that ride so he can keep hold of him). The thought really scared me after it was all said and done, because I'd never even given a second thought to the possibility that one of my children could actually fall from the seats (the harnesses are so flimsy, they seem useless, so I think I always subconsciously perceived that to mean that there really wasn't any possible danger).

I've never thought of the belts as being flimsy...they are lap belts, and for the smaller people (I'm 5'3" and I'm not that far above the arrow thing that tells you to use the extra strap) you've got the strap to stop a fall...

The Indy question...Dinosaur at WDW is just about the same ride but with a MUCH lower height req...is that a possibility?

Good point. I googled that ride and yup - it's 40 inches. Seems much more reasonable than the 46" for Indy. But hey - I have heard that Indy is much better ride - so maybe it's all for the best ;)

Well, for as high up as you are, and the seeming possibility that a kid could get out of that harness, I think they seem flimsy. I'm only 5'3", as well. I don't feel like there's a danger of *me* falling out of it, but I could see a kid being able to wiggle out of it. I doubt that they could realistically accidentally tip out of it by leaning forward (which is what it *looked* like my son was going to do...), but it sure looks like it's possible when you're watching your own kid do it. Like I said, we've been on the ride many, many times, but none of my 4 children have ever leaned forward like that in the seat, so it was just nothing we'd ever given any thought to before.

I haen't been to DW, but looking at the video of the dino ride, it seems those buggies don't bounce around and jerk as much as the indy buggies do. And I would guess that is the reason behind the height requirement. Though I would think 42" would be sufficient. Ds1 is super excited he's 46" and can ride IJ now, though!

They sure seemed to bounce around just as much to me, it's just a lot darker on Dino then it is on indy.
