Soarin down to one theater recently.

What is the best strategy for Soarin' right now then with 1 screen up. Is trying standby first thing the best idea or trying for a FP?

If you have MaxPass, I'd jump in line before the park opens and try to do it first. You can book your first FP while waiting.

Last Thursday, we were in line by 8:50 (9:00 open) and completed our ride by 9:33. Obviously, the earlier you can get in line, the sooner you will ride. We must have been on the fifth ride cycle.

We were there on Monday the 14th and that is the day it went to one side, according to two CM's. The wait time all day was anywhere from 95-120 minutes and the FP's ran out very quickly. We never rode it.

We will not have Maxpass. What is the strategy if you do not?

I still might be inclined to jump in the standby line as early as you can. If it looks like they have not run the initial line through the queue area, you can make a guess as to how long your wait will be. The line was back almost to the drink cart when we got in it, and we finished riding at 9:33. If the line was at the drink cart, I'd guess 45 minutes, and if it was back to the circle, I'd guess an hour.

That's just what I might do. YMMV, of course.

Make sure you are at the park just before opening.
Head to Soarin and use Stand By
After Soarin head through Grizzly Trail and pick up that World of Color FP if you need it by the Little Mermaid.
Head to Toy Story and pick up that FP the manual way, it should have a quick return time (aka a 30-minute window until you can get your next FP).
Then ride Mickeys Fun Wheel and Tritons Carousel. You're basically wasting time until you can get or use your next FP.
Grab that FP for Screamin (quick return time), then use FP for Toy Story, then use FP for Screamin
Grab FP for Racers (2-hour wait to get your next FP), ride Mater's Junkyard Jamboree and Luigi's if lines are 30 minutes or lower.
Ride Little Mermaid, grab FP for Grizzly (quick return time), ride Monsters Inc., grab FP for Guardians, use FP for Grizzly.
You should now have FPs for Guardians and Racers for later in the day.

You can get FP for Goofy Sky School after that 2-hour window for Guardians, ride Symphony Swings, Jumpin Jellyfish, and Golden Zephyr.
Bugs Land can be done later in the day when the lines die down.
