I keep hearing how wonderful Soarin' is, but I am not sure I want to go on since I get motion sick so easily! (So does my friend I am going to Disney with!) :sad2:

I'd hate to miss this great ride, but I also don't want to feel lousy the rest of the day.

Please share your experiences on this ride, especially if you are motion sensitive! :thanks:

Soarin' is such a mild ride that I couldn't imagine anyone getting queasy on it ... until my 17-year old son did. Maybe it had something to do with riding it first thing in the morning on empty somachs, but he felt nauseous for a good hour after Soarin', and had to sit and rest til he felt better. So you never know.

I just returned from a trip with my mom and dad--in their 70s--and I could not get them on Soarin because of my Dad's concerns about motion sickness. (I did get them on Splash Mountain!). I thought this was very sad, as it is the best ride in the parks after Everest.

My motion sickness is such that I sometimes get a little queasy from the bumps on big thunder mountain, but have only gotten to the edge of queasiness--if that's a word--on Soarin. So use Big Thunder as your benchmark--if you are ok enuf on that, then Soarin will be fine as well..

I too get very motion sick on simulated rides (body wars, star tours) and avoid them at all cost. I also have the same feeling of motion sickness on the 3 Disney Cruises which I have been on. That being said, I heard how wonderful Soarin was and just had to try it out. I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that I did not feel any amount of motion sickness from this ride. I loved the whole experience. So, don't be scared to give it a try. It is different from anything I have experienced and I had no problems at all.

Yes, unfortunately, I am very prone to motion sickness and this ride was not for me. I now refer to it as "Pukin'" instead of "Soarin'" because that's what I very nearly did! The rest of my family loved it, while I was sitting there with my eyes closed praying that it would end. I had been so excited about trying it, too. :sad1: I was so disappointed.

Gotta Get To Disney! :moped:

I have big issues with motions sickness (and vertigo periodically) and the only issue I had with Soarin was right at the beginning as you go up through the clouds. So I just shut my eyes and after that I was fine and it is one of my favorite rides! I actually rode it twice that day with no issues.

Well, we love Soarin'. We went to WDW with another mom and her dd last month to celebrate the girls' 13th birthdays. The other dd was/is prone to motion sickness, so we went through the tortures of the 'you know what' before riding Soarin'. We had to walk to the American Pavillion, from BW through the International Gateway, eat lunch there, then hike all the way back over to FutureLand and wait 35 minutes to ride Soarin', before we walked back to BW.....way too much walking for one attraction. But they had to have their lobster rolls so dd wouldn't have an empty tummy before riding.

Anyway....turns out this young lady had no problem whatsoever with the ride, but her mother got off it almost in tears. Seems we hadn't mentioned that it goes up in the air...she is horribly afraid of heights. So am I but it really doesn't bother me. She was white as a sheet, shaking, close to tears. We thought she was going to pass out, right there in the walkway back outside!!!

My sis is VERY prone to motion sickness. She rides Soarin' w/ no problem. There's one part...about 5 seconds worth where she closes her eyes, but is fine otherwise....and she's so bad she get sick on Ellen's Univ of Engery ride. :guilty:

I get motion sickness mostly on things that spin, can't read in a car either. EE made me feel yucky too. Soarin' was fine tho :) Awesome ride. Would you consider taking some medication for your motion sicknes?? I have started doing that lately just to be safe.

Soarin is a very gentle ride and you will have no problem. Don't miss it it is excellent.

Just a warning about motion sickeness meds: a little known side effect is they can cause your pupils to dialiate...for DAYS sometimes. :3dglasses

I'm sure they help tons though!

One side effect of OTC motion sickness meds is that they cause drowsiness. Makes sense -- if you're asleep, you can't get sick! :)

I have heard that ginger is an effective remedy and has no side effects. I also saw this method tested on "Mythbusters" and they showed that it worked for their peeps. Sadly, I just can't remember the effective dose or in what form it was ingested. I'm not a medical professional and I'd hesitate before steering you to an online source. It sounds so promising, though, that I'd check around to see if anyone knows how much of it to take.

It would be shame to miss Soarin' so I hope you find something that works.

I couldn't go on it without taking something. Even with the Less Drowsy Dramamine, I still feel a little off, but I don't have that desperate if-this-thing doesn't-end-soon, someone-below-is-going-to-be-sorry feeling.

I too, have terrible motion sickness, have to ride in the frontseat of a car, forget about flying and probably will never be able to go on a Disney cruise. Any way, Soaring was great :thumbsup2 As mentioned in another post, I also had to close my eyes in the very beginning going through the clouds. Also, if I started with that "feeling" I would just turn away.

We ended up going on it 3 times, it was worth the risk.

Give it a try you will be ok :wizard:

I NEVER get motion sickness but I felt queasy on Soarin.

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST RIDES AT DISNEY. I would ride it again even if I did get queasy. If you get motion sickness I would suggest taking something before you ride it.

I have found that "Bonine" is the one med that I can take without getting drowsy. I have already planned on taking that every morning "just in case".

I did take "Bonine" on a cruise and was fine. My fear with Soarin' is that I can't take off in a plane without feeling wierd, so that fact that this ride has you flying is a real concern.

Thanks everyone for your replies. :thumbsup2

It appears it is a very individual thing. I think I may take my chances and just close my eyes if it becomes a problem. (That's what I do in the one movie in Canada(?) (:confused3 ) at the WS.)

I'll take my "Bonine" every day and go from there.

I'd still like to hear more opinions! Thanks again!!! :goodvibes

My sister cannot watch the movies like O Canada either because they make her feel queasy. We rode soarin twice and she was fine both times. If you start to feel weird I would try to focus my eyes on something that is not moving, closing your eyes or turning your head usually makes things worse not better.

I was going to recommend bonine too, glad to hear that it helps you.

I get motion sick very easily and was also nervous about Soarin.Star Tours made me so sick that it almost ruined my day. I LOVED Soarin! There are a few times where I closed my eyes for a second or two because I felt a little twinge, but Soarin is now my favorite Disney ride
