Well we pay at the time of purchase, so it's really a matter of getting back the money that you've already paid.

What do you do down there? I seperate into bins in my garage and take them to collection area, if I take my aluminium to the central collections are they will wiegh it and pay me for it. There is also a private company that will collect the seperated recylables for a fee.

Some of my friend in Norcal have two garbage cans. One is for trash picked up weekly. The other picked up one week with mixed recyclables the next week with yard waste.

I'd like to hear more about recyling in various areas. It's one of my favorite subjects and now everyone is gone. :sad1:

We can now recycle our milk containers. So I saved those as well. I took them today and they are closed. Oh well I will take tomorrow.

I'm confused. Do you mean you can't get money for recycling/ Or that you don't pay for the pickup service?

Did you know in California you pay a deposit on most drink's for thier plastic or metal containers, and when you recycle it you get your deposit back, but often less than the deposit? Several states use a system like this.

We have three bins in our kitchen. One for trash, one for accepted recyclable products (rinsed cans like cat food or soup, milk cartons, V8 jars, newspaper, etc) and the last one for CRV (California Redemption Value) containers.

The reason it takes so much for us to redeem them is because we go to a place where you stick each can in one at a time, but you get your 5 cents for standard cans and 10 or 20 cents for the 2 liter bottles. We have four trash bins and three recycling bins for our 4 unit building. We only have one unit that gets rented out and in Fran's heyday of eBay buying we would fill all three recycling bins with the cardboard from the boxes that she would get shipped. :scared1:

Hey Usnuz! I just went to the grocery store and I drove down by the bluff on my way there. I saw your ship!!!!! Only one week!

Do you get money for the cardboard? I've heard people do that in Cali. Do you use the vending type machines for your cans and 2 liters? I can remember using them when I lived out there. It's painfully time consuming.

:wave2: Finally got caught up ; I was pretty behind. Got a little lost a few pages back with who's traveling where & who was talking to whom, but I think I'm good now. :goodvibes

Since the current topic is recycling: NY state charges a 5 cent refundable fee on most recyclable drink containers, like soda, iced tea & water. Milk & juices are exempt. You pay the deposit when you buy & then take the containers to a redemption site & get the money back. Supermarkets, convenience stores, etc all have redemption areas.

Our town collects leaves, yard waste, shrubs, tree branches etc for recycling/ composting spring thru fall. They come around with chipper machines to grind up bigger branches. Every week they collect clean: glass (food jars), plastic (milk, juice containers), cardboard & paper (newspaper, paper bags, cardboard). Each city or town is a little different in what they take. My parents town takes stuff like Cool Whip or Glad food containers, mine doesn't. The town tells you what number to look for in the little recycle triangle on the container.

I don't think you get much for cardboard, it's easier just to to give it to the city, otherwise it would sit around our house forever!

Shucks, all I got to do was go to work. :sad2: And thanks for the recap! :thumbsup2

Cans, I thinks its 1. 58 a pd. Plastic is also by pd. Glass same thing.

Every year in the neighbor hoods you can throw all your junk out, applinaces, tvs, furniture, anything and they haul it away.

I am excited trying to get things together.

Thanks for reminding me to schedule our yearly pick up. I liked it better when they gave us the date, because I forget to schedule it.

Have a great time on your cruise!!!

Survived another NYE Party with only one pan of lasagna left for the freezer. Only 3 work days this week. :dance3:

That reminded me, after Christmas in a week or two there will be some days where you can leave you tree out and they get picked up. Otherwise if I have yard waste, I compost it all, it's supposed to go to a special section of the dump where it gets composted and wood gets chipped for use in parks.

I wish I could recycle more plastic but for me it's just PETE # 1 and 2.
