So why did you get divorced?

Bashing? She just said that her brother got a divorce because he did everything for the relationship and his wife wouldn't lift a finger to do anything. I don't see how that is bashing? I can see how that would be a major problem when one partner is not doing anything in the relationship and the other is the only one putting out any effort. I would have that same opinion whoever was at fault, man or the woman. So you think its OK for one partner to do everything while the other sits on the couch and does nothing?

No, I sure don't think it's ok for one partner to do everything while the other sits on the couch doing nothing.

I read all of her posts (did you?), and honestly feel that she was trying to bash women to a certain degree.

OK, single woman without kids here--but you are so right. I do like to read this type of thread, but I would never have posted on it. What the heck do I know about marriage? nothing. I know a little more about kids--I am a hands on aunt--but I don't give advice there either.

:lmao: And you're one person from whom I would totally take child rearing advice and marriage advice.

FTR, my imaginary kids were SO much easier to raise than my real kid.

Does anyone else find it amusing not a single person on this thread has taken any responsibility for their divorce? It was all the spouse's fault. Everyone here was the perfect spouse and the other spouse was a snake, *****, etc.

I'll take responsibility. I left my ex for someone else.

that's so sweet! :)

My first husband was very physically and emotionally abusive. The abuse was really bad and not something I'll go into here. He was also addicted to porn, and I don't say that lightly. I am in no way shape or form against adult entertainment, but he was truly an addict, though he never admitted it.

My part in the whole thing was that I married him when I knew I shouldn't have. I continued to stay, hoping that it would be different, get better. But it only got worse. I should have left after he threw the first punch when we were dating (I was 16). Coulda. Shoulda. Woulda. I was a different person then. No way would I put up with that for a second now.

He wasn't evil. He was royally messed up. I hope that he got help and that he has a good life now. Somehow I doubt that is the case though. I get calls from creditors who are looking for him and not too long ago a repo man even visited my house looking for his car. The entire family was a mess. The whole story could be a Lifetime Miniseries. I am so glad that I finally found the strength to get out and that I have a wonderful life now.

Wasn't Donna Reed the one who played Miss Ellie in Dallas for one season??

Yes. Donna Reed played Miss Ellie for one season when Barbara Bel Geddes had had a stroke and was recovering. Donna Reed played her much flashier and fancier than the more down to earth Barbara Bel Geddes.

I personally would prefer to be compared to the perfume commercial from the 70s: "I can bring home the bacon, fry it up in the pan; and never let him forget he's a man, cause I'm a woman (anjolie??)" Much sexier than Donna Reed, IMHO.

My ex-husband is/was addicted to prescription drugs, illegal drugs and alcohol. He also had numerous affairs. After trying for years to try to get him to get help for his addictions, I finally threw in the towel.

He was never abusive and he loves his kids. In his own way, I think he loved me too. I just couldn't take "his way" anymore. We were together for over 10 years (married for 9).
