Well I'm new to
DVC and a frequent offsite visitor. (Own several weeks at Marriott and go down yearly.) We wanted to mix up our stays a bit and add time at Disney's resorts to our usual Marriott stays.
After hemming and hawing, I ended up with a plan and backup plan (mostly due to reading this site and this thread). Our first choice was to stay in a studio at Wilderness Lodge for 4 nights (Dec 7 - 11), but there was no room at the inn. Second choice was a studio at Saratoga but they had none that were accessible. (Apparently I found the flaw in DVC... accessible units are hard to come by.) So I ended up on the hunt for a 1 bedroom.
Found one at Beach Club but only for 3 nights and I'm a day early to book the last night of the stay. So after contemplating one night at Saratoga in a non-accessible Studio then switch to BCV for 2 nights and wait 12 hours to see if they still had the 3rd night available, I went with the safe bet: 4 nights at Saratoga Springs in a 1 bedroom accessible unit.
I'm waitlisting VWL and BCV with an automatic confirmation on all 4 nights if they are confirmed accessible. I chose to stick to the 7 day waitlist option.
I'm using 60 more points than I had anticipated, but we still have enough to spare for this year and next.
I am surprised by the lack of availability that week. Interval International is showing tons of units available for the same time in 2 bedrooms. Accessibility has never been an issue at Marriott. I call 4 weeks before to request it and I'm always given a room with roll-in shower and great accessibility. I'm hoping Disney gets better with choices in other time periods or the stay is more than worth it.
So far I'm planning a trip down for 11 days... 7 at Marriott's Cypress Harbour and 4 at Disney. I'm bringing my dad and a friend who's never been there before. Got us some tickets to the Christmas Party on the 4th, ressies for LTT, and I'm thinking of talking my friend into staying an extra night on Disney property with us. Then his last night there (when we vacate Marriott and move to Saratoga or wherever) he can do some night on the town stuff with me... Downtown Disney.
For those interested, they did have 1 bedroom villas available for VWL 7-11 and lots of Studios at Saratoga. None are accessible though.
