So who is going to Disney for New Years 2007/2008?

We are considering NYE at ssr, How soon do you think we'd need to book? Would probably go 12/28 to 1/1, either a studio or 1 bedroom. Is MK still decorated for christmas at that time?

The MK is still decorated as is everything else. You probably have a little while for an SSR reservation. But as soon as you are sure, you should make it.

I was so glad to be THERE on NYE! I'm HOOKED and every year I can do it, I'm gonna be there again:)

Us too. We have now been to each of the parks for midnight so we will be deciding where to go next year at midnight.

For those going for the first time, the MK does a preview countdown and firewroks show on the night of December 30 at 11:50 P.M. They did it three years ago and again this year so I'm guessing they will do it again next year. While it's not New Years, it's a good way to see the fireworks at the MK and then at another park the next night.

Well, we are booked:thumbsup2

This will be our 4th year at SSR for NYE:cool1:

It is a great place to celebrate NYE! You can be part of the action without being all up in it! LOL! We went to the SSR NYE party also and had a great time!! The boys swam, they had games, popcorn, party hats, noisemakers, bingo w/prizes, trivia, a DJ, a cash bar, Hula hoop games (my hoop dont hula anymore!:rotfl2: ) we did the cha-cha slide, they played on the playground with other children, and then at midnight, we sat on the edge of the lake and watched the fireworks. They piped in the music from PI and those people paid $$$$ to be over there and there we all were with our intimate party of 300 having a Grand ole time at SSR:goodvibes

We love it, and that will be our NYE tradition for a long time.

See y'all there!

Oh, and I would book NYE ASAP. With NYE falling on a Mon, everybody within driving distance will be checking in on Sunday for NYE. I stayed on the waitlist for 6 months for a studio or 1 bed at SSR (I was still in the 11 month window) and it was a pain to switch. I originally booked BCV, but we really wanted SSR so I tried to switch and couldnt. It finally came thru, but I would not wait. That will be a busy week, especially with the Marathon following.

we are planning on being there. However, I just tried Member Services (take advantage of those late Thurs night hours, plus I'm on a biz trip and just got into my destination) and the wait they listed was over 30 minutes. I can't wait that long, I've been on a plane all day an I'm starving!

I guess I'll try tomorrow when I get a break.

I just tried to book but I was a day early on the checkout we will go 12/28 to 1/1. I could've booked everything til today and called back tomorrow, easier to do it all in one call-she said there was plenty of availibility.

ms were very helpful she suggested I bank my 06 points because of my oct uy and use my 07 points for this ressie.

Thanks jjk1107,

Based on your lovely description, just booked SSR for NYEs. I will be there by the pool party with my DD-8.

This will be my first stay. Any other hints?

I would recommend what another poster stated regarding the fireworks at MK on 12/30 if you will be there that night as well. I believe the reason they do the preview the night before is because they tape it for the Dick Clark NYE Countdown on TV. We saw large cameras filming it on the 30th and I guess they want to have it just case there was a technical glitch or rain on 12/31. We went and it was not as crowded as it was on the regular 12/31. We got to see the exact same fireworks that they showed on 12/31 and it freed up our time to be at the pool party on 12/31. It was very lovely. We have 12/30 and 12/31 already booked. Now I just have to call tomorrow and get the last night of our stay. For all of us that will be out at the pool party, we should meet up!

I finished my dinner in time to try 10 minutes before the late thurs night closing for member services. Got in right at the buzzer, got my SSR 2 BR reserved for the first part of the trip Dec 30th and 31st). I'll call back later to get the rest of the week.

I've been wondering what to do NYE. I'm not a huge fan of wall to wall crowds (although I've done 3 NYE's at Disneyland, but that was a while ago). Going with the in-laws, they are not big on crowds either. So the SSR pool party sounds ideal.

I've thought about hitting AK during the day, wondering since it is the only park not to open late that perhaps it will be a bit less crazy. Then perhaps Hoop De Doo for dinner or just head back early to SSR for the NYE pool party. Can't wait.

This past NYE we did EPCOT on the 29th, they had special fireworks, MK on the 30th, they do the NYE fireworks (amazing) and MGM on the 31st. The fireworks at MGM were incredible. We were amazed that they only do fireworks once or twice a year at MGM. What ever you go expect huge crowds, but a great show!

We are all booked too! We will be there from Dec. 26th-Jan. 9th.:cool1: We had the most amazing view of the fireworks last year from our deck at Congress Parks. We only left DW three weeks ago and we are already booking new trips. We are a scarey bunch. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

You know, I thought I would never have any desire to be at WDW over those big holidays, but you sure make that SSR NYE sound pleasant! I won't be booking for this year, but it just goes to show that one should never say "never!"

OK, you guys are officially troublemakers!

You made SSR sound so nice I turned to my dad this morning and said, "You know how I swore never to be a 1000 miles near Disney during the holidays?". We did a "well, what if?" moment. The man said "No" but smirked his boyish "Yes". And 8:57am I'm dialing MS (ok really 9:06am).

My goal was just to see if they had the impossible... a studio for 3 nights (Dec 30, 31, and Jan 1) that was handicapped accessible. (Yes, limiting my choices from the gate.) Wait on hold for a few minutes, and boom I've got my ressies.

45 points, not bad considering I had 445 available. And my use year is December so I figure there's nothing to lose.

So now I just have to wait for SWA to release their flights (hope they're cheap).

Q: Is Osborne Lights still going on the 30th? We're happy avoiding the busy parks, but dad would really love to see that.

P.S. Sorry about keeping the MS gal tied up for 30 min but she was double checking everything.

Great Choice and Yes the Festival of Lights continues until about the 3rd or
4th if my memory is correct. You will love it! This will be our fourth New Year's and it's :thumbsup2

I thought so. We were there for 12 days in early December last year. Loved all the Christmas decor but it was way too cold to justify a long stay. We had said we weren't going back this year but maybe next. Just a 5 day stay to see the MVMCP, Candlelight Processional, fireworks and Osborne Lights. Dad's just happy with seeing the Osborne Lights this year. That was spectacular!

Of course I blame all this talk from you guys on the SSR festivities. We're not major crowd people, but love a fun party. It sounds like just our thing.

Now let's quickly name all the reasons we hate SSR so no one else will get a bright idea. :)

:lmao:  :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I wish I could think of a few because the secret is out now, SSR is by far a great NYE.

Oh come on, try harder!

Remember:

- It's too big and spread out.
- You'll be stuck in the Paddocks or Carousel section right next to the road where it sounds like you're next to the Interstate.
- The food sucks. (flatbread? cardboard with cheese)
- Um, there's mold under the sinks (I read it in a complaint thread so it MUST be true for all the rooms)
- The busses are overcrowded with DTD revelers. And they only run once an hour.
- It's such a poor resort (and Disney knows it) they don't even have their OWN refillable mugs! They just use EPCOT or any old secondhand mug. Yeah, they're probably used mugs guests at better resorts discarded on the way. And not washed either.

We'll be at the Boardwalk. We have our 2BR reserved for the 12/30 - 1/2. We'll try to add on the nights of the 2nd and 3rd at the 7 month window with our OKW points.

We did a NYE trip a few years ago, but stayed off-site NYE and checked into our DVC resort on 1/1. We just HAD to be onsite this time. We just did an add-on at BWV to ensure we could book there for NYE. I'm hoping this is the first of many NYE's at the BW.

We'll be at our BWV home on 12/30 and NYE and then on to our VWL home 1/1-1/4.

We said we'd never, EVER go to WDW during Christmas again after our first time in 2005. However, that was before we purchased DVC and can see alot of the action, decorations and festivities from our very own balcony! ;)

I'll be there... with bells on!

BWV 1 bedroom boardwalk view 29 Dec 07 - 1 Jan 08

SSR 2 bedroom 1 Jan 07 - 13 Jan 08

We were at SSR last for the last 2 years over New Years. Both times we had just arrived and ended up in bed before the big fireworks. :(

We were able to watch the early fireworks from Magic Kingdom and Epcot from our balcony so that was nice. The Epcot and Pleasure Island fireworks were super loud and woke me up at midnight, but I was too tired to crawl out of bed.

Can't wait to try Boardwalk. Definately going to be practicing staying up late for that! hehehe

:cool1: Just booked today SSR Dec. 30th - Jan. 3rd., 1 bedroom. No problem for availability. And i'm happy i picked the perfect resort for the NYE party!

I'd been to FL for the last few years for the holidays but stayed quietly at my parents' condo in Ft.Myers. Now I know where the party is, you won't be able to keep me away! :dance3:
