Hello DIS family. You might recall my name from the past and must be wondering "Where the heck did Quentin Disney go?". Well, I do have a LOT of explaining to do about my long departure. Yes I'm back, but that doesn't mean I'll stick here that long. I'm having problems "fitting in" the CB now as it was quite different in the past.
For those who have paid attention, I decided to become a Walt Disney World Cast Member part-time in Merchandising. There are a whole lot of reasons why I did this (other than the fact that I was a bored Annual Passholder and was a little low on cash). For the most part, it has been a positive experience, but with every job, there is something that you won't enjoy at all. I could talk about that all day, but I don't want to bore you.
Online during my DIS absence, I began to post on other boards. I started to post a little on WDWmagic and wanted to venture on RADP, but the message boards that were taking most of my time wasn't even Disney-related. Let's say it's an experience that is "somethingawful". (I gave you a hint, no more!) .
In the Spring, I didn't do as well in school. I failed my C programming class (9:00am classes will do that to you!) and I barely passed my others. To catch up a bit, I decided to attend summer classes. Thinking it would be a breeze, did the super-short 6 week session.
What was I thinking!
It was lighting-quick paced, but I think that was good since it not only kept you on your toes with the assingments but kept your academic edge during the summer months. Luckily, I surivived with a pair of B's for both of my summer courses.
Throughout most of the summer, I worked, worked, worked and worked some more. I went back "home" to LI for the 4th (I think my real "home" is in Orlando now), did more work and finally decided to build by own PC from parts purchased online. Early on, things started to fall apart, but I was able to keep it from crashing and locking up. (Building a PC is not that hard, you just gotta know what's "inside" which is a challenge for many.)
Now, the fall rears its ugly head. I am deep in the Fall Semester right now, retaking my C Programming course, learning a Foreign Language for the first time and taking a neat-o online Computer Graphics course. Of course, being this is UCF, I was one of the MANY students who were almost screwed out of their Fin Aid. Although I finally reclassified for tuition purposes, (I pay in-state instead of out-of-state), they decide that my Work Study is not worth nothing for me. So I suddenly now have one job again, which is my WDW one. Sure, I could ask for more hours, but in early September, you aren't going to pick up a lot of hours when the parks are dead. Eventually, I found another on campus job, but it pays a lot less than I was making, but for it to keep my credit from turning into mush is better than nothing.
Unfortunlately, I applied for private loan, but only to cover my rent. Since I a bit more "padded" now, I might cut off a day or two of work. Education is an investment, and shouldn't be wasted, especially in this economy. With working and schooling constantly, I'm back where I was again before summer - NO SOCIAL LIFE! The only time I actually get to communicate on a regular basis is online message boards. Sure, its sounding a bit anti-social, but when you have worked an 8 hour shift plus two hours in class, your body wants you to stay home! Heck, now that I got to watching Japenese Animation now. This makes me even more of a geek!
So, this is what I have been up to for all these months. Once again, I don't know if I can hang around here long, but I will try to "fit in". I believe my perception of people online has changed tremendously. Now, don't think that I hate people online, but it's just..."something" that's different that not everyone might now.
Oh know, I'm getting long winded again. I try to keep it simple, but I never do! Hope everyone is doing fine.
