So where exactly is my census info? - Update

If i had EVER GOTTEN the stinkin form it would have been filled out. Next problem is when they come bang on door hey are either going to get no one or a tired crabby u just woke me up witch at door. The price I pay for working nights :(
You can call them and let them know. You can also give the information to them via phone. I wound up doing this since they didn't send me the form even after requesting one being sent to my house.

For those not offering up info on your neighbors, you are only reducing the amount of federal money your city and state recieve..

Tough boogers!

My thoughts exactly! What my neighbor chooses to share with the Census Bureau is their business, not mine. It is not my place to rat them out on whatever information they would rather not share.

Neighbors or other proxy are only used as a last resort. My enumerators have had much success with people they have visited, including those that said they had already sent their form in. I am confident those of you that are so adamant about not providing info are in a very tiny minority.

As stated before, mutiple visits cost money and aggravation for both the worker and the resident. The Census is not out to get anyone and they are not trying to make you angry if we have to fill out another form. Mail can be lost, stolen, many things can happen. The local Census offices have worked hard over the last weeks waiting until the last minute to see if any more forms would float in. And now the enumerators out in the field are working hard also to finish quickly and accurately so we all can look forward to the future.

Hmmmmmmm. Now I'm wondering if the guys I saw walking up & down our street this morning were census workers or those folks wanting to talk religion. At any rate, we had sent our form in. I put my "no soliciting" sign on the door as I thought they were the religious persons.

I wonder--who counts those sad souls who are in jails & prisons???

I mailed ours back immediately & was visited by a census taker yesterday also saying our info hadn't arrived.

Ah, good point. If I am asked about the vacant house next door I'll make sure they know 15 people live there. :thumbsup2

The current census is a bit behind the times technologically. How there isn't an online option I don't understand. It doesn't have to be online only, but if they allowed people to do the census online and opt out of the mailing by doing it by a certain date not only would they save a lot of money on mailings but they wouldn't have to pay people to go to houses that have already filled out and mailed in the forms. Forms that that could have been spared in the first place with an online option.

Of course that would require forward thinking and they are pretty bad at that.

The warden. I would hope that any prison would have an accurate record of the number of people there and the necessary information for the census.

Great, that's just more money for the rest of us. Don't complain to us when your county doesn't have money to fix roads or they start closing schools near you because they are out of money :thumbsup2.

Census workers are required to wear badges around their necks at all times and all have been issued totes with Census Bureau prominently displayed on the totes.

Jails and prisons are counted in a separate operation called General Quarters. That also includes military barracks and nursing homes. That was conducted in our area a few weeks ago...

Nice to know you would deliberately lie to a government worker. The more I work with the Census, the more off the wall things I hear. Unbelievable...

I am working for the Census this time around and can tell you that I have an entire street of people who say they sent theirs in. Know what? I still have to ask every single household the questions. A lot of things could have happened to account for the mix-ups. The common thread I have found is that they all had PO boxes so I'm thinking they put that address in address column INSTEAD of their physical one.:confused3 Luckily, they have all been very nice about answering the questions. And we do all carry ID and there is a phone number on it that you can call to verify the census taker's identity. As for giving our your neighbor's info, that is usually only asked as a last resort kind of thing. We are only allowed to visit a limited number of times in person to try to get the info, so any we can gather on that last trip is good. Also neighbors can be used if the house is vacant. We can't just look at a place and record it as vacant based on our own observations. It has to be verified by a proxy(the neighbor or apt. manager, etc.).

Does this not bother anyone else?
I wonder what is happening to all these forms with all this information?
is the PO losing it? is the census mishandling it?
makes you wonder about the efficiency.

If you would have read on a couple of sentences further into the post, you would have been informed as to why people who have sent their forms in are being interviewed by census workers.

:thumbsup2 I'll gladly give whatever info I can about any paranoid neighbors. Every person not counted affects my community in a negative way. We need the federal dollars.

As quickly as the government deliberately lies to me (and the rest of the citizenry).

Besides, Literal Larry, it was a joke. Man, some people have no sense of humor, it must be a very unhappy existence.

I am with Firedancer....it just kills me that we are on 2010 & we are still collecting census information in this antiquated fashion. Surely an online option wouldn't be hard at all to set up. The millions & millions of dollars being spent on advertising, sending people out, etc could be used for more worthwhile projects.

What just came to mind is the DOT - at least in my area, another agency behind the times. We now don't get out actual ID when we leave since they are trying to prevent theft. This is good, I think; they are using facial-recognition software to cut down on theft, etc - & they are catching sex offenders who haven't registered, which is also great. BUT they still don't take a debit or credit card as payment; you need cash or a check. ????makes no sense to me!

Re; the PO boxes.........I have PO box for most of my mail, but my census came to my physical address. it was pre printed on the census. I didn't have to write it in.
and one post said an entire street census forms were missing.........so that entire street has a PO box?

something doesn't seem right about it to me, but hey thats just me.

and also somewhere on the thread it mentioned re-interviewing people. If there is such a concern about cost and going out, why RE-interview anyone......

Not everyone is online...my MIL for example.

Well, my mom already answered all the questions. ... He can come back all he wants ...... she already filled out the form.

But if they didn't get it, it doesn't matter what she did already. If you mail your cable bill and it doesn't get there, the cable company still wants you to pay.

...Since the census counts ALL people living in the U.S. not just those who pay taxes.

Ooh good point.

Not everyone is online...my MIL for example.

Which is why it should be an option and not a necessity. There are too many people, especially of older generations, who have yet to find the on-ramp for the information superhighway. Fill out the census online and save the tax payers the cost of mailings and workers going door to door. Don't fill it out and participate the traditional way. It doesn't have to be only one of the other.

Take banking for example, you have the choice of doing banking online or not.

What would you be 'ratting out'? The fact that you believe that the total number of people living in the home in April was three?
As quickly as the government deliberately lies to me (and the rest of the citizenry).
Paranoid much?
