So where do you request at AK??????

We are going for a savanah view 1 bdrm......but which building? Why? And do I need to even ask for something more specific......? First time to this resort and I can't wait. Me, DH, and three under 7.....

First, you have to decide building (which one you choose is guaranteed) and room category. If "value" you can have only Jambo and view can be pool, parking lot or sunset savanna. You can request the savanna but not guaranteed. All those rooms are toward the front of Jambo.

With "standard" and request Jambo, you are guaranteed a pool view because all the standards are over the pool. With Kidani it could be pool, garden. or street view and you could request one of those, not guaranteed (also I do not think the pool views will be open until September).

With "concierge," you are again limited to Jambo and all 5 of the 2BR lock-offs (thus can be studio or 1BR) are above the lobby with two having view of pool and three the sunset savanna, and requesting savanna view is not guaranteed.

With "savanna" view, you have 80% of all rooms at both buildings. Savanna view is guaranteed but not the particular savanna. At Jambo you can request one of three savannas (Arusha in the middle of the building, sunset on the west -- left side of building when looking at a map -- and uzima on the east); all three are fine except right now sunset has no animals (return April 15) and you would be looking at and hearing Kidani construction so avoid it if possible for near future. You can also instead request a "trail" such as Zebra trail which puts you on side of the building with an Arusha view, again not guaranteed.

With Kidani, there will be only two savannas, sunset and pembe. Sunset will be for most rooms. Pembe, not open until Sep, will be for those at northern end. From seeing the building it looks like all sunset savanna views will be good (and likely so for pembe). The Jambo rooms are 5th floor (6th for concierge) but Kidani will be 2 through 5 (there are no 1st ground floor rooms at either because of the savannas which come right up to almost the building). Many like the higher view but many believe the lower level view is better because of direct sight line to the animals and thus lower floor is likely to become a popular request at Kidani.

Particularly for Kidani, where it looks like the walk from the end of a wing (there are two) of the building to the lobby will be at least a 1/4 mile, requests of close to the lobby may also become popular. The walk from the ends of Jambo are also long but nowhere near that long. If they put exits and stairs or elevators to the street in the south wing of Kidani away from the lobby, you may also find members requesting that south wing because it is closer to Jambo and its restaurants -- Boma, Jiko's, and the fast food court, Mara. Kidani will have one sit down restaurant.

GVs if you ever get one are in various places. I would perceive a main request there will simply be the building (again guaranteed) because the Jambo GVs are single story and Kidani are two story and many have a preference for one or the other.

Another thing to keep in mind: at Kidani the 1 and 2 br villas have an additional bathroom. With 3 under 7 that might be handy...

What great answers!!!! This is why i love DIS. My DH will be glad to read these responces..... Maybe we could get a studio and put the kids out on savanah with a tent anyone try that yet????
