So when do you start packing?

We usually start airing out the suitcases about 2 weeks before (I just Febreeze them to freshen them up from being in the attic). Once the suitcases are dry, usually within 24 hours I start to pack. I like to pack early so I have time to get any last minute things that I didn't realize I needed until I started packing.

I have a bucket in my closet labeled "for the mouse" and stuff I have been picking up in prep for the trip or things we wont need until then (like swimsuits, swim goggles, etc) are getting tossed in there already. I don't think it's officially "packing" but it's certainly my pile to be packed. We leave in 95 days. :lmao:

We leave in 2 weeks, is it too early?

Too early?! we leave in 21 days and I've been packing for MONTHS. Literally! We live in VT so it's been easy to pack summer stuff. And, I've been so excited for this trip since BEFORE it was even booked, I've been planning for a loooong time. I'm a bit afraid I'll overlook something important after staring at the luggage in our bedroom for so long. Next time, I won't be so obsessive....maybe.
happy Disneying!

I have a small pile of stuff-custom tees, toys, and things like that, but I won't actually start packing until 24 hours before. I always find that if I pack sooner I end up taking things out that I need now and then I can't remember what I have/have not packed and end up overpacking!

If you are able to I say go for it! It's never too early!

Two weeks is when I pull out the suitcases, pack the travel stuff and disney only stuff and update my packing list.

Then the week of I start packing. then I realize I am bringing way too much stuff and the day before I finish laundry and the night before I unpack, edit and repack.

I keep trying to avoid the whole unpack, edit, repack step but I still haven't been able to. :rotfl:

I have a rubbermaid container where I throw stuff I collect for my trips. I keep my suitcases in my bedroom closet, when I wash my shorts and summery shirts I just pack them away. If I buy something for the trip that gets packed so when it's time to leave just zip up and go. I might rearrange stuff the week before I leave.

Some of us never totally unpacks I have several things I only wear at disney so always leave them packed, always refill my shampoo bottle etc an have tolietries ready to go.

My wife......60 minutes prior to departure.
That's what I do to when travelling. I wait until 60 minutes prior to departure before I pack her up. Gotta keep her around until the last minute, she's a good cook... :rotfl:

Seriously, if I packed for a week long trip 2 weeks out, I'd be naked for 2 weeks. I don't even have enough clothes to last me a week, let alone 2 weeks.

We started officially packing last week. I got fully packed yesterday....then the zipper busted on 1 suitcase as i put another on top of it. So, I had to REPACK it into another suitcase today. I had though made our tshirts b4 and packed those up once they were done.

I think starting to pack at 2 weeks out is appropriate. I too have a bag of stuff hidden from the children in a closet (the Disney store sells those big fabric shopping bags great for this purpose and for putting in the stroller basket) - crayons, coloring books, stickers, glow sticks, our stroller blankets, DISigned Tshirts, stretchy gloves, snacks, juice boxes, our room breakfasts, coffee and filters (to use with our fridge swap).

I think I'm telling my kids that we're going to WDW just under 2 weeks in advance, so I may be packing on the sly.

I take out 1 suitcase 2 months at least, prior to departure to start tossing stuff in. By the time a month or 3-4 weeks rolls around I have all suitcases out and start organizing. DH tends to pack last minute (he's dang good at it though) but I pouted and begged for mercy so he started helping yesterday. :lovestruc I feel better when almost all is done a week or so in advance. Then it's just last minute stuff.

I too am a last minute packer. I make my lists a few weeks ahead of time so if I need something I know to get it, but otherwise, I don't do much until I have too. I hate packing. And unpacking when I get home.

Although, when I do pick up things on my list or come across things in the house that I need for the trip but will not need before I leave I do make a pile in the spare room. That way it's all in the same place. But nothing gets checked off the master list until it physically goes into the suitcase. Usually the night before and sometimes as we are running out the door.

We leave in 26 days. I'm planning on starting this weekend. As others have posted we have some "disney" stuff already packed. We keep a suitcase with pre-purchased souvenirs and various things to pull out while we drive down for the kdis.

This weekend I'll start packing the summer stuff and the paper goods.

The weekend before we leave I leave out enough clothes for everyone to get through until we go and everything else goes in the suitcases. The rule is once it's in the suitcase it doesn't come out until we're out of town. We also pack one suitcase for the road and then each of us gets one that doesn't come out of the car until we arrive.

We leave 12/3 and don't come back 'til 12/13 so we'll start getting our Christmas decorations out next week end.

So no, I don't think you're starting too early.

We're 3 weeks out & while I'm not actively putting stuff in suitcases yet, I am starting to think about outfits for the girls, making sure I have what I want. I have also taken their summery stuff out of their drawers so I'm going to start going through that & pulling out what I want to take v. what we'll be keeping or donating or selling. It's possible I"ll pull out a suitcase this weekend just as a holding place for some of that stuff. I probably won't start worrying about packing me or DH until a few days before, but the kids stuff, yes, I start kind of early.

Two weeks before is the time that I start to make sure my kids (and I) have swimsuits or shorts that fit.

I pack the night before. We each have a wheeled carry on that we bring.

We leave 3 weeks from yesterday. We have a rubbermaid sitting in dd's room that has all of the little stuff in it - goggles, sunscreen, glow sticks, crayons, travel size toiletries. I am planning to pull out the kids shorts today and try them on to make sure they still fit. We have made 4 matching shirts for the entire group of 11 so we do not need to take shirts (we will wash them and wear them 2x each). Probably next week, I will pull out the Rubbermaids (we pack in Rubbermaids instead of suitcases for easy stacking in the car) and start putting stuff in.

That's an excellant idea. I might just pack one suitcase for the road, we stay over 2 to 3 nights on the way down and try rubbermaid containers for the rest of our clothes. I already have our summer stuff stored for winter in them.

Thanks for the tip.
