So when are National's rates for Dec going to start dropping?

I've been watching the December rates for a couple of months now and they have not budged. The rate I have is not too bad $207 for a full size, 9 days. I seen them go much lower though.

Any one have any ideas when the rates will start to drop?

What dates? The closer you get to Christmas, the less likely a discount.

I waited for 6 months for my rates to drop for July and they never did. They didn't budge one bit and so I paid the highest I've ever paid. Now I've been waiting about 9 months for my October rate to lower and still, it has not budge. Paying $186 (before discounts and taxes) for a full size (ER). I have a back up ressie with Dollar and have $119 weekly basic rate for a full size. We can see where this is going. I prefer bypassing the counter with National, but for the $60 savings with Dollar, I may have to choose Dollar this time. Too bad, National is my #1 choice.

when you know your dates you need to just book a car rental, then watch for the discounts, i booked mine ressies back in jan. and i got a van for 12 days for 400.00 during christmas.

I have typically found that the rates for National have gotten to their lowest point about 1 month before my reservation date. I usually make a reservation as soon as I book hotel and air and then check it pretty much every day to see if it's gone down and then make a new reservation and cancel the previous one. It's really easy to do since they don't require a credit card or deposit to reserve.

P.S. We leave 9/16 and have a full size reserved for 4 days and are paying $82.50 using the priceless vacation code and free weekend day code/coupon from rentalcodes.com.

That sounds like a good rate to me. When I checked the website using the priceless code, the best rate I could get for Nov 5-15 is $275 for a compact.
