So what's cookin'?

I did the cranberry orange relish this afternoon. Thinking I'll go ahead and make the apple pie tonight, but everything else can wait until tomorrow. It's just the 3 of us for dinner, so we won't be having a huge spread. Tomorrow, I'll just have to bake the ham, make stuffing, green bean casserole, salad, and fruit salad. No big deal.

Pumpkin pie in the oven.
Cranberry pie ready to go in.
Cider on the stove.
Still need to do the Gooey butter cake, apple roll, black cherry jello salad, and would like to get the sweet potato casserole put together.

I made the brocolli/mashed potatoes, sausage apple stuffing and my cajun injected turkey breast is thawing (I cheat) :rotfl: So tomorrow just put that in the oven, open the cran sauce and green beans. :goodvibes And this year for desert we are having pumpkin mousse pudding. popcorn::

I haven't started yet, but I'm going to bake a cake tonight, make watergate salad, and DH is going to start the oyster stuffing.

I almost cried buying the ingredients for the watergate salad. :sad1: I've never made it before because it was something my mother always did. In the middle of the store, I wanted to call to ask her how big of a can of pineapple I needed to get and then remembered that I couldn't call her. :sad2: That hurts.

I'm so sorry. The first ones are always the hardest. :grouphug:

Hi all! My very first post!!!!! I haven't actually cooked yet but I'm prepping! Onions and celery sliced and diced. Turkey defrosted. I sooooooooo love Thanksgiving and am looking forward to my family sharing our feast tomorrow!

Just put double batches of

Green bean casserole
corn souffle
Sweet potatoes
mushrooms and rice

all in the fridge. Will just do a warm up and toppings where they need it tomorrow.

Have pistachio fluff, fluffing away in the top of the fridge.

I was only responsible for half the side dishes!

Oh my! So busy. Can I ask what the Pistaccio fluff is? It sounds amazing!

It was so easy it was scary! Here I thought Grandma went all out on that one!

Pistacho instant pudding, can of crushed pineapple, one small cool whip and half bag small marshmallows . Mix the first two then add in the second two. Put in the fridge for a day, then top with a sprinkling of finely chopped pistachios.

I doubled it, but didn't double the pineapple as the can I used was bigger than 15oz that I saw posted on a ton of recipe sites. It was always about the FLUFF part anyways! :) I didn't use all the marshmallows, either, as I want some left to throw on top of the sweet potatoes tomorrow.

I just put the apple pie in the oven and thinking of mixing up the brine for the turkey.

That is just where I'm at, when the apple comes out two pumpkin will go in.
Turkey prep and chopping the veggies for stuffing before I crash tonight.

Cooked the spaghetti squash. I'm walking a 5K tomorrow morning, but then have to speed home to cook a cherry pie and a new sweet potato recipe I'm trying, before heading to a friend's house for dinner at 3pm. Gonna be a bit hectic.

Hope you have a great run tomorrow!
I'm curious how you serve the spaghetti squash? Is it an ingredient or a side dish?

:sad1: So sorry for your loss.

Cranberry pie! Yum! Do you have a recipe for that??? I've never tried it.

OMG! That sounds so easy and WONDERFUL!!! Too late for Thanksgiving but on the radar for Christmas. Thank you so much.

I've got the #3 and #4 sweet potato pie in the oven, carrot cake is out and waiting to cool and be frosted, did the watergate and cranberry salad in the fridge, now I'm about to start on the cheesecake. I think I'll do the buttermilk pie tomorrow since it's pretty easy.

mushy mushy: After reading your post I really wished I could give you a hug. My mom makes me the Mexican Tea Cakes every year they're really easy to make and I could do them myself but it just seems special to me when they come from her and I was thinking just the other day about when I will have to do it myself. I dont even want to imagine that. (And for those of you thinking I dont want to do it because Im lazy, its not about that at all so dont go there)

And I have a pecan pie in the oven as we speak. I better go check on it too.

Hugs, MushyMushy! I dread losing my parents...they're getting to the age where the thought intrudes now and then.

I'll have to try that sometime. We have a family recipe that sounds very similar but ours is a heck of a lot more labor intensive (uses real whipping cream, jello instead of pudding, cream cheese, marshmallows, etc...). You mix it all up and it layers as it sets. It's delicious. Yours sounds like it would be a similar, very delicious, and a lot simpler!

Oh, yeah. Going to bed now (DS14 is playing in his HS band at the Chicago parade, and we're going to see it -- wish us luck getting downtown!).

Made: Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes; Sweet Potato Bake; Stuffing (with fruit, sausage and nuts in it...no flames!). Also made Apple Pie (overly dark....Something I'll berate myself for not covering with tin foil when I thought about it!!). Cranberry sauce made as well.

So tomorrow when we return, I'll put the turkey in the oven, the mashed potatoes in crockpot 1, and the stuffing in crockpot 2. I'll make the scalloped oysters, and put in the oven with the sweet potatoes 1 hour before time.

Dinner roll dough going in the bread machine at some point, too.

No layers.. all fluff.. .mix and dump! It MUST sit in the fridge for awhile.

I had to google watergate salad. Found out its the same stuff. There are the changes of both recipes all over the place, but you get the gist of it with either google.

That and the mushrooms and rice were my grandma's. I look at it as making her legacy live on, if its even a small way. I can't wait for my kids to ask for Great Grandma S's recipes!

I was going to get a lot done tonight but DD21 and I went to see Twilight instead and got home at 12:30 am sooooooo not much done. But I have a Raspberry pie in the oven and eggs boiling on the stove. DD is watching a Harry Potter movie and I am going to get back to reading "New Moon". We are night owls! :goodvibes

I put my two casseroles together last night, and only have to put the toppings on and throw them in the oven later. I just put the ham on a few minutes ago.
Now to go get ready so I can watch the parade in a little while. :) Then we'll go to my brother's after everything is cooked.

Note to my kids: The TV is MINE! lol

What's a friendship cake? :) I'm just bringing the green bean casserole tomorrow, so I haven't started anything yet. I may call and offer to bring devilled eggs, though...in which case I'd do those this evening. If I do them, Ma can't put relish in the filling. Gack.

Your post jumped out at me. I posted late last night about "holiday foods you miss" and mine was the boozy cranberry compote my friend's elderly Nana used to make. I have no idea how to make it, but that might just be how she did it. I bet she wouldn't have used Grand Marnier because that would have been a little "fancy" for her, but she may very well have soaked the berries in bourbon for a few days. Do you crush them at all first or poke holes in the skins or anything?

Nope, just let them soak in the fridge. they're thirsty little suckers (hic):lmao:

It's also good with throwing in some chopped pecans! :)
