Anyone started their Thanksgiving cooking yet? I am making a quick run to the store & then I am going to bake a Friendship cake this afternoon.

We're going to my dm's for the big meal - so I will save my assigned sides for tomorrow morning while we are watching the parade.

Both of my dd's are home - I love the holidays! :lovestruc :lovestruc

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!pirate: (closest thing I could find to a pilgrim...:rotfl2: )

I just pulled a pumpkin pie out of the oven and put the apple pie in.

I started the jello this morning but need to wait a little longer for it to set before I add the next layer.

We're having about 20 people but I'm lucky that each family coming is bringing something so that helps a lot.

Early tomorrow we'll be frying one turkey and roasting the other along with sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes...and everything else that goes with Thanksgiving.

My DD's are home from school so we spent the morning washing the china, silverware, wine glasses...and getting the tables set!

Cookies & Brownies are made and ready to travel to Mom's tomorrow for Turkey

Cornbread is made for the dressing tomorrow, my son's birthday cake is made and potatoes are peeled and ready to be boiled.

I am making the sausage, cranberry apple dressing for tomorrow. I am doing the small turkey for gravy, (good idea who ever said it), squash and turnips and then I will do the rest tomorrow. Maybe I will do the apple pie tonight although I like it really fresh.

cranberry sauce with bourbon and grand marnier. Let the fresh berries soak in the "good stuff" for a few days before I cook it...

 I just did the exact same thing.

I've also hard boiled the eggs for the deviled eggs and will be making DH's lemon icebox this evening.

What's a friendship cake? :) I'm just bringing the green bean casserole tomorrow, so I haven't started anything yet. I may call and offer to bring devilled eggs, though...in which case I'd do those this evening. If I do them, Ma can't put relish in the filling. Gack.

Your post jumped out at me. I posted late last night about "holiday foods you miss" and mine was the boozy cranberry compote my friend's elderly Nana used to make. I have no idea how to make it, but that might just be how she did it. I bet she wouldn't have used Grand Marnier because that would have been a little "fancy" for her, but she may very well have soaked the berries in bourbon for a few days. Do you crush them at all first or poke holes in the skins or anything?

Cooked the spaghetti squash. I'm walking a 5K tomorrow morning, but then have to speed home to cook a cherry pie and a new sweet potato recipe I'm trying, before heading to a friend's house for dinner at 3pm. Gonna be a bit hectic.

I have the pumpkin pies made and about to peel apples for the apple pies. I am browning the sausage as I write to add to the stuffing tomorrow. Other than that I can do no more tonight other than chop celery and onions. :)

I just put the apple pie in the oven and thinking of mixing up the brine for the turkey.

We are in charge of bringing the green bean casserole and dinner rolls so I don't need to cook anything until tomorrow. I am going to do the beans in my crock pot, I hope the onion things will toast in that :confused3 . There won't be enough oven space to cook them at my MIL's.

One 18 lb turkey is in the oven now. I'll chop the celery and onions for tomorrow's dressing soon. A pumpkin pie will go into the oven after the turkey is done. We eat at 1pm, so I've got to have things done early. I'm lucky, too, as everyone coming brings the side dishes.

I haven't started yet, but I'm going to bake a cake tonight, make watergate salad, and DH is going to start the oyster stuffing.

I almost cried buying the ingredients for the watergate salad. :sad1: I've never made it before because it was something my mother always did. In the middle of the store, I wanted to call to ask her how big of a can of pineapple I needed to get and then remembered that I couldn't call her. :sad2: That hurts.

Turkey smoking on the Big Green Egg at my BIL's house. DW baked a cake, prepared a sweet potato casserole and green beans. MIL has made a few dishes, corn salad, rutabagas and deviled eggs. Tonight we shall dine on Papa Johns pizza and Joe's Crabshack crab dip my wife made. Thanksgiving meal is tomorrow 1 pm. Nap at 1:45.

Fresh cranberries are soaking in sugar overnight. The sabayon is made and chilling. The paper sacks are covered in chocolate for DH's dessert. :cloud9: The turkey is swimming in it's brine. :thumbsup2

My family Thanksgiving is on Saturday, so tomorrow I'll make the pumpkin pies I'm bringing. We're having dinner at a friend's tomorrow, and I'm bringing the green bean casserole. I did do a lot of my Christmas baking today, though! I made lots of mini loaves of pumpkin bread and 2 batches of fudge. They'll go in the freezer till closer to Christmas.

Noodles. Just finished the prelim... will complete them in the am.
going to do a pie in a little while.

The Turkey is sitting submerged in a brine made with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, Old Bay, rosemary and a bay leaf. It will sit in the brine overnight in a tightly covered pot in our garage (35 degrees out there). Tomorrow morning I will fire up the smoker, rub the turkey with a mixture of salt, pepper, onion salt and Emeril's Essence and smoke it all day.

:thumbsup2
