So What's Coming to the New Pleasure Island?

Just returned from a family reunion back up in good 'ol N.J., and stopped over at PI on the way home from the airport. Sad to see nothing at ALL going on over there. What the heck is wrong with Disney anyhow?

we all wonder. I was just reading an old press release about it. "bold new vision" "PI re-imagined" "guests want more shopping and dining"

"to make way for the new PI over the next 2 years..."

They better get workin cuz there's only 4 months till the 2 year mark and all we've seen is the creation of a lame street party and the removal of mannequins stairs

Don't forget the removal of the old PI Live booth and the lighting tower adjacent to it. Paradiso 37 & the adjacent water taxi dock are new additions since the clubs closed.

The 2 year plan was extended to a 4 year plan but I don't see how even that's realistic given the first club demolition has yet to take place.

Hmm, next stop, the 6 year plan. Can anyone say "an 8 year plan?":sad2:

So whats Flamingo Crossings, maybe the hundred year plan... :)

I suppose it might get interesting when things improve to the point Disney simply can't blame the economy anymore, yet the remains of Pleasure Island continue to sit empty and abandoned.

Does anyone know if there is an official way to get your hands on some of the old club props? I would love to have some of the wall art from Comedy Warehouse or the Adventurer's Club...

You can always keep your eyes on www.MouseSurplus.com . They get all sorts of odd stuff.

They currently have a door from Monorail Red for sale. That's a bit morbid if you ask me.

Funny you should mention that. We did a 2 day trip to WDW this week, and on the way home we took a little ride over to the site off of 429. The road work, landscaping and traffic lights are all in. But all of the construction equipment is gone and nothing else has been done building-wise. Just a lot of dead end roads and barricades. literally no sign of any further building at this point. Some of the areas even have for sale signs on them.

I loved Pleasure Island. For me,it was the only way to close every night on a Disney vacation. I was really angry when it closed, however as time passes I am cooling down. For now, I think that Disney should focus on promoting the few nightlife areas that they have. DH and I went to Disney a few weeks ago and visited Rix Lounge a Coronado Springs, a very cool place, and the Boardwalk area around Jellyrolls and Atlantic Dance. Rix and Jellyrolls were dead and Atlantic Dance was closed. Adults need somewhere to go in the evenings, but they have to know they exist. I also think that they should make some more club/lounges like Rix. Just my two cents!

I just hope PI is not becoming the new River Country. I know it is supply and demand, though. If the clubs they have aren't overflowing, they will probably not create new ones. I would love to see the return of Comedy Warehouse in some form!!

I'm guessing they'll site the economy, although after their earnings report, that is no longer valid. They might be focusing on Fantasyland, but I doubt that as well.

My guess... bad management. The "cleaning lady" strikes again.

Sell and Ship (an EBAY seller) is a good one too. They just sold a lot of props from Disneylands now defunct Country Bears. I really wanted the Jug but it went for more than I can afford now. They do have a sheep from Mr Toad's right now, but I'm sure the reserve is super high. I've bought a few things from both them and Mouse surplus and have excellent service with both.

I just hope they do SOMETHING with it... I hate when they leave buildings empty... heck, the fact that wonders of life is still just sitting there and only used for special events or the old odessey restaurant still bugs me.

I'd rather have 3rd party stuff like a Lucky Strike or something like that than empty buildings. Sigh... remember when Disney did original stuff?

yeah, ADH is closed Sun/Mon. Rix is rarely busy from what I know, and Jellyrools can get packed, but if it's slow, then it's slow.

They don't promote because they don't want adults having adult fun. That's really what it comes down to. ADH and Jellyrolls are contracted by the swan/dolphin for conventions, so Disney doesn't care to promote them, plus they don't want drunk guests at 2am waking up hotel patrons. That is why PI was good in its location, but we all know that.

Yea, regarding the economy, absolutley. The parks and restaurants were jammed. There is no longer a "recession" at WDW. People are going in droves. I think we may have had a month or two of semi-"quiet" times there, but that is all gone. Tourists are back with a vengence.

Thats a door from the Mark IV monorail red, which has been out of service since 1991.

Since it's part of the monorail that was damaged in the fatal crash?

I don't think monorail red was involved in the crash - I think the ones involved were purple and the darker pink. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I remember seeing monorail red in service shortly after the accident.

Monorails Pink and Purple were involved in the crash. Monorail Red was not.

The shape of the door itself tells me it is not a Mark VI door anyways...but a Mark IV as mentioned. An end car from Monorail Red exists and is privately owned I believe.
