So What's a reasonable birthday window?

DH has a birthday 3/11 and we'll be at Disney 3/25. I suggested he get a button, cake, etc, but he says that would be tacky since it wasn't his actual birthday...He says he will bow to the majority of the Dissers. What do you think?

Plus we'll be at DL. Anyone know what they may do for birthdays there or how I'd go about setting something up for him?

If it's a birthday trip then time has no meaning.

After all Disney celebrates it's Birthdays for about 18 months at a time

I say fine. It's not as if he's going to be there for two weeks and 'celebrating' his birthday every day.

Let me think - if you tour the tortilla factory and tell them it's your birthday in the room at the end, where they give out samples, you get a whole bag of corn tortillas. Same with the sourdough bread place, I think (a loaf, not a whole bag).

Wearing my birthday button got me lots of little 'magic', such as being able to stay in the Autopia car for a second spin and then getting a special card that I could trade in for a gift; a super-FastPass that I could have used on almost any attraction that day (from a CM at Soarin' Over California - where I spent much of the day anyway :)); a cupcake at dinner; and a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday from Cast Members doing crowd control for Wishes.

When I read the title of this thread I came in to suggest that 2 weeks would be a reasonable window. That was before I read your post stating the actual dates.

I say do it!!!

I would do it.

We spent 9 days in WDW at the end of Jan. last year & now I regret not having celebrated DS's 8th b-day then. His b-day is actually in Feb. but we will probably never go back to WDW in Jan. or Feb. again (at least while he's a kid), so I blew it for him getting to celebrate a b-day in WDW.

When I recently started planning his sister's WDW b-day for August (we'll be there on her actual b-day) is what made me realize how much fun it will be for her & how I should've done it with him!! :sad2:

I say do it!

Personally, I consider a week either side of the actual day to be acceptable. But sometimes you can't plan a birthday trip within that window. I say if it's in the same month, go for it!

We're going to celebrate DS' 4th birthday on 6/1 (our last full day) and his bday is 6/6. That's as close as we can come.

Our 25th wedding anniversary is in June but we're unable to travel til October. This is still our anniversary trip even if it's 4 months after the actual date. I don't think it should matter, it's the intent of the trip that counts

Besides, what does it hurt? You're not 'cheating' anyone out of anything... it's just nice to maybe be on the receiving end of more smiles and good wishes :)

Happy Birthday!

Celebrate it!
My three nephews have the same birthday. Honest! (twins+1) We are going for their birthday this year. Do you think anyone will really believe they all have the same birthday? Celebrate as you like!

Since it is his birthday and he thinks it tacky then he should have the final say. Personally I think it is tacky.

As far as I'm concerned it really doesn't matter - celebrate when you can celebrate. :thumbsup2

However, if your DH doesn't want to do anything and it is his birthday that you are trying to celebrate then I would go along with his wishes.

Ds's actual birthday is June 23 but we won't get to Disney until June 28th. Since we're doing the kids/school friends party on June 23rd I'm just going to wait to do the family celebration (grandparents will be there) when we get to Disney. Since we usually do them on different days anyway I don't feel guilty. I ordered cake so I'm doing it for the "freebies". I just think it will be a nice celebration.

I think it is ok to celebrate whenever. My mom turns 70 in August but we are going as a family this month to celebrate her 70th year.

I'm taking my daughter for her very first trip to WDW in early June. This is also her bday gift this year. I made an ADR for 1900 Park Fare breakfast (she's really into Alice in Wonderland). The CM asked if we were celebrating anything special. I told her this was my dd's bday trip, even though her real bday is in July, (this was just the only time that worked) and the CM said she would still mark it down as a bday celebration. Like everyone else said, you can't always be there on the exact day. I"d just respect whatever your husband is comfortable with and have fun!

with my best friends family in August and we will be 7 days past her birthday and 10 days before mine! We are picking a day and YES!, we will be celebrating! Have a great trip!

We celebrated our 7th Anniversary @ WDW about 6 weeks after the fact. The reason was because of my honey travels on business and is home mostly on the weekends. The dates that we booked were the first available dates that we could be off together once I was told that we should do this trip. We did not spend time together on our anniversary last year since Gabby was out of town.

I didn't feel like we were lying, because when I booked I explained that the trip was our Anniversary celebration and not happening on our actual anniversary. No one treated us like we were doing anything wrong. We were shocked to find a personalized gift left in our room. It was a great short trip.

I think that blatant abuse is not cool, but sometimes situational stuff happens and it just doesn't quite work out to the exact date. I think that you are totally ok celebrating a couple of weeks late. Maggie
