So What's a reasonable birthday window?

The OP's husband thought to wear a "Today's My Birthday" button would be tacky....in his own words, since it wouldn't really be his birthday. He expressed this, and others have agreed. No one is against celebrating a birthday, or anniversary, or any other occasion.........no matter what day it is. WDW is a wonderful and magical place to share these special times, and make precious memories. These wonderful celebrations can take place without having a button proclaiming it's your birthday that day.....if it really isn't your birthday. It's not the celebration of a birthday that was 2 weeks previous, but rather wearing the button proclaiming that this particular day is the actual birthday, that would seem tacky and make the OP's husband uncomfortable.

Many people celebrate holidays on week-ends before or after the actual holiday. For instance, if a family can all get together the Saturday before Christmas.........that's when they celebrate it. But the children know that this isn't really Christmas Day, but rather the day that their family is able to celebrate it. Children have birthday parties on the week-ends, even if their birthdays fall on a day during the week. The children know what day their birthday is, and the party is just to celebrate their birthday. But to go to WDW and wear a button that says "Today is My Birthday" when it really isn't? How many times will someone feel the need to justify this statement by giving reasons as to why they're wearing this button, if it's not really their birthday? The key word is celebrate, and that can be done in so many wonderful and personal ways....no matter when the day actually is.

My husband and I had our first trip to DL last November. As it is my birthday December 14th, I rarely get to celebrate properly as it is so close to Christmas and there is no way we could do a Disney trip for then so I wore a birthday badge roughly 1 month early! I didn't do it to get free stuff I did it so I could have a Disney Birthday, my Husband had his birthday in DL Paris last year so I thought I deserved one!

OP - Go for it, but only if your Husband is up for it!:thumbsup2

Oh, tacky schmacky -- I say wear the button with pride (well, that is, if hubby wants to...)!!

Personally, I celebrate my birthday for a whole month and think it should be a national holiday. If hubby feels that way, too, then by all means I think he should get the button. On the other hand... some people do think that birthdays are overrated once you're an adult, and if he's one of those, he'd probably be uncomfortable with more than a cake...

It's not like most of us get to go to Disney all the time, and if celebrating your birthday there is important, you should -- no matter what the date.

I will be at Disneyland the day before my birthday this year. It just so happens that I am filming out in LA that week and since I have to work on my birthday & be in LA for it (2 things that do not make me happy), I'm going to fly my mom out with me and go to DL for the weekend. How cool is that?

Some might argue that I am way to old to be celebrating my birthday and running around like a 4 year old on Christmas, but, heck, that's what makes me happy. :wizard:

And aren't we all kids again once we step through that arch???

Have a wonderful trip!! :earboy2:

I'm in the "go for it" category. :goodvibes My family has been planning our upcoming trip for six months, and we're not planning on going back anytime soon, so we'll be celebrating my son's 7th birthday while we're there. No, we won't be having him wear the pin every day; just the last day of our trip, and we will also be celebrating it at the Lilo & Stitch Breakfast that morning (the CMs already know about it). We're going April 8 - 14th, and his birthday is in May. I don't feel guilty about it at all. You're only seven once, KWIM??

We are going to be at DL this Sunday and my daughters birthday isn't until April 2nd. Do you think it's too soon to celebrate hers? How do you go about celebrating their birthdays? I know at the Plaza Inn I've seen them do birthday celebrations, but I wasn't sure if there was something you need to do to get them a birthday pin. Any info would be great!!

Thanks!

our first day at disneyland was our daughters actual birthday (she turned one), and the CM wrote the date on the edge of the button along with her name and birthday age. i like that it will be a keepsake of the official day she turned one year old!
do they always write the date on the edge of the pin i wonder? maybe you could ask them not to if the birthday date is too far away from the date you travel.
for me, it wouldn't have felt "as special" it being another day, but again that's just me.:)
i say go for it if it would mean alot to you :thumbsup2

cheers!

I would do just what you and DH feel comfortable with. I wouldn't worry about people who think it is tacky. After all, as someone mentioned earlier, Disneyland celebrated its 50th for 18 months (which I never had a problem with :) ) I really don't think wearing a birthday button will exploit anything -- and just because your hubby isn't a small child, it doesn't mean that he can't be a kid at heart! Of course, if he doesn't feel comfortable with it -- then I just wouldn't worry about it and just enjoy your trip.
Have fun!!!

I Love that:laughing: I tell people this ALL the time!!!!
My daughter ia a 4th of July baby and most people still look at me like I'm lying.
I say the same thing... My daughters BD should be a national holiday...:rotfl:
OH WAIT it IS!!!!!!
When she was little we told her the fireworks were for her...:rolleyes1
Well now she knows better she's almost 12.... But as far as celebrating a BD ..
Maybe next time. we will be there 2 monthes and one week before her BD ..
IN 41 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yay: :cheer2: :cool1:

*To just get a Happy Birthday button, go to the town hall and tell them that you're celebrating birthdays.
*The Plaza Inn thing is a paid party, and I think you're celebrating with a bunch of strangers.
*And you can also buy "birthday buckets", in a princess theme or a....hmm, not sure what the "boy" (:sad2: ) theme is, but they are around $20 and have a (not-all-that-fab) cake, the princess one had a sheet of magnet "dolls", a tiny brush and comb, and a Happy Birthday princess pin.

I have *read* that you can get a birthday button at character breakfasts, but I do not know this for sure.

:) Mine is on the TRUE Columbus Day (though rarely celebrated on that day). Sure, it's a holiday that is out of favor, but it IS a holiday. :)

As I mentioned, the button I got just last October simply says "Happy Birthday". A little bit different. I'm not saying there aren't any "it's my birthday" buttons, just that they aren't ALL like that.

Plus there was this line: "He says he will bow to the majority of the Dissers"

:)
