I doubt that a lot of beach vacationers would go to WDW instead. They'd go to Atlantic coast beaches instead of Gulf coast beaches.

It is really not if, it is where all will it hit? If the panhandle has not seen it yet...it will be soon. Tar balls have already come ashore in Dauphin Island. News said something about some in Key West area, but not sure that these are from the oil leak. Sent off for testing. My guess is that it has hit the loop and making it into the keys....

No matter where it goes, it is a huge mess and lots of people are already canceling condos and vacations on the Gulf Coast.

Just came across info that said that testing says the Key West tar balls are from a different source...the oil does not match. Still a really scary situation.

This is precisely why many of the scientists at LSU said that using dispersion chemicals was a BAD idea... it makes predicting the landing sites much more difficult. Many said it would be better for the environment, the cleanup efforts, and all communities to leave the spill in tact and deal with it that way. I'm in Louisiana and our way of life will in all likelihood be impacted the most... but I still agree it would have been much better to leave the oil in tact rather than dispersing it into infinite tarballs that *could* ride the Gulf Stream.

As for placing blame, I'm still looking squarely at the U.S. federal regulators who gave the Deep Sea Horizon numerous safety awards after bogus inspections, leading the unfortunate crewmen and corporate leaders to believe they were working in a safe situation.

ahhh I had heard about the hair, but not the hay. Thanks for the clarification. I live in Ohio now, but am from Pensacola, FL. My family is still there, so I am trying to keep up with everything.

I, for one, hope all the tourists that might be staying away from the beaches DO go to Disney, SeaWorld, Universal, etc. Florida needs those tourist dollars any way it can get them. Hopefully in the long term, those tax dollars go to helping the businesses that lose out during this disaster.

The oil may already be reaching Florida.

The oil balls from Key West were tested and were determined NOT to be from the Mississippi Canyon spill. Probably from a passing ship.

However, yesterday there were also oil balls collected in Dry Tortugas National Park, which is located in the Florida Straits 70 miles west of Key West. That is a much more logical place to find the first traces of the BP oil because it is right where the Loop Current goes into the Florida Straits. No word yet on whether those oil balls were from BP.

The problem really is that this situation is not contained. It is not a matter of the oil slick is moving. It is a matter of continuous amounts of oil continue to pour into the water from three different breaches. Containment may be months away. In my opinion the oil will naturally run the loop up the east coast. The weather will determine whether the oil moves into or away from land. I can't imagine what happens if we get some early tropical storms.

Tar balls have been a way of life on the Texas Gulf Coast for many years. I remember going to Galveston (staying out of the water if I could help it) and trying to avoid stepping on a tar ball on the beach.

My husband was an offshore tool pusher and driller for many years in the Louisiana Gulf area. I designed offshore platforms for a few years before I went to work for Exxon.

I guess you could give up driving if you want them to stop offshore drilling.

With June 1 right around the corner, BP could have a bigger problem on their hands.
