No need for insurance. DCL is allowing cancellation within 14 days of embarkation if exposed to or positive for covid. Full refund, no penalty. If your question is what happens a couple days prior to the cruise, canceling is easy IF you have insurance.
You just call & tell them. You'll have the option of moving your sail date or getting a full refund. No strings, no being grilled with a lot of questions, no paperwork. What are the steps we need to follow if we do happen to test Positive, be in close-contact or display symptoms leading up our cruise? And what info will we need to provide DCL?
If we test positive at the port and decide to get credit for a future cruise, do we have to pay for insurance again? Or is our insurance forwarded to the next cruise? The refund is from DCL, not an insurance company, because they don't want sick guests. It totally bypasses the insurance process. Insurance is for when you cancel.
I didn't buy insurance so I can't answer that. I don't see the point of buying DCL insurance right now, since they're going to refund your money if you are denied boarding, or if you claim Covid symptoms or exposure within 14 days prior to the cruise. It's so easy to get the cruise money back that no one really needs cancellation insurance for the cruise portion of the trip. I buy private insurance for overseas medical emergencies only for these cruises. That insurance can certainly be moved to a later sail date.If we test positive at the port and decide to get credit for a future cruise, do we have to pay for insurance again? As for testing positive at embarkation -- DCL will refund or credit towards a future cruise. They offer transportation back to Orlando wherever you want -- MCO or hotel or other. But it is on you to make those alternative plans; DCL does not put you up in a designated hotel or provide transport home.

I tried researching the very same question prior to our Jan 3 cruise which we ended up canceling. I found it VERY hard, actually impossible! to get an official answer. Obviously Disney can’t say they will take you to the airport, what an outcry if people found out Disney was dumping infectious people at MCO. Likewise if they said they had an agreement with XYZ Hotel no one else would book there.
My husband and I decided the only moral alternative was to rent a car and drive back to upstate New York. Out plan had been to get away from winter weather not risk having to drive through it.
