I pose a question to all the fellow Disney lovers out there.
What do you do when you haven't been to Disney in a while and your financial situation may not allow you to go for another while??
It's been 2 1/2 years for us and I NEED Disney sooooo bad :guilty:
It's been a bad year in many ways but also financially and all I want to do is go to my happy place :)
I think about it day and night as it is the only place I wanna be right now with my family and not thinking about anything else.
So fellow Disney lovers - what do you do when you need a dose of Disney badly!!!!

When I need a dose I come here and read all the different boards, but especially this one as I get to experience everyone elses trips thru their stories. I also visit the Disney stores closer to home. What about getting together at a Dismeet to share your stories?
We've actually not been to MK since Oct 2004. We've been to Downtown Disney, but we did Universal the last time we went to Orlando. We can't always afford to go to all the parks. Just being in Orlando makes us feel like we've gone "home".

I come to these boards, pop in a vacation planning video, or flip threw the photo albums.

I haven't been since Oct 2003 either for various reasons. :sad2:
so I stay in touch by visiting the boards and keeping up to date with all that's new just in case I need to plan a last minute vacation!

Hi: I read the dis, and especially the trip reports board. I go on the disney site and look at the theme park attractions, get library books on disney and basically start planning for a trip in two to three years. I kind of plan with no money where I would like to stay and what is in reach for us, and what attractions I want to see this time.

Also when finances are a bit better I try to start a small savings plan to get there. I try to stay out of the malls, or if I am at a mall will ask myself "Do i need this or just want it" if it is a want it gets put on my birthday list or xmas list.

Disney is a great addiction, but we have to be realistic and not get into the poor house. lol I do understand how disney draws us back.

I earned enough from selling on ebay that it has enabled us to be able to afford 2 days at AKL and 6 days at AsMo (with Dining plan, using AAA discount) :cloud9:

Have a sort out of your stuff and see if there is anything that you really don't use anymore (just like sorting things for a garage sale) and list it on ebay. You'll be surprised what sells and sometimes what it goes for ::yes::

For example, my DS (14) had at least 12 Beast War transformers sitting in a box in the basement

One rainy weekend, we sorted all the "Beasties" into Zip Lock bags - luckily we had kept the instructions on how to transform them :)

I listed them and was amazed that many of them sold for $15 - $25US!!!!! :goodvibes

This went into our "Disney" fund . I try to plan a yearly trip to Disney :cheer2:

No, I am not rich, I collect airmiles (via buying groceries and gas from Airmiles sponsors) and this pays for our air tickets

If you plan well in advance, you will get there ::yes::

Hope this info helps :flower:

Hi Carol:

Wow, I like that idea. But who pays for shipping and do you take it to canada post and ship it to the United States or are there cheaper ways of mailing merchandise. Does it cost anything to put it on ebay?

Hi Deb :wave2:

First I started off by buying a book at chapters that gave me a step by step guide as to how to get started on ebay. I read it from cover to cover before I did anything. Once I had everything in place, I listed one item and it sold very easily. From there, I was listing 1 item per day or sometimes more :)

When you list on ebay there is a cost (approx $0.35 for items that are listed at $9.99 or under)
Should the auction take off and the bids go higher than $9.99 then once the sale is final, ebay will add a final fee) I would say it usually costs me less than $1 for $10 items. The fee schedule is available on ebay for you to see what it costs to list and sell. You are entitled to add 1 free picture to your listing. If you add additional pictures it costs $0.15 :sunny:

Re: Shipping..... Buyer should always pay for shipping costs ::yes::
When you go through the listing process for your item, it will give you an opportunity to put in a flat-rate cost for shipping. If you are not sure how much it is going to cost you, then you can state that buyer is to pay actual mailing cost + handling (packaging materials cost)

I usually have my items pre-packaged so I know what the weight and dimensions are.

I use Canada Post for all my mailings (Courier is too expensive)
You can find out how much it would cost to mail a package to anywhere in the world by going to www.canadapost.ca and entering the package dimensions and weight and destination.

When I create a listing, I always say in the description "buyer to pay shipping cost" as well as Sale is final. This way you hopefully shouldn't get people bidding/buying items and then trying to return them to you

I always describe my item in detail. It saves receiving lots of questions about the item and also I always put a picture, so that prospective bidders can see what they are getting :earsgirl:

To make it easier for people to purchase the item, I also use Buy-it-now which means that someone who is really interested in the item and doesn't want to wait for the auction to end can purchase immediately. When I am creating a listing, I make sure that Buy-It-Now also has to be with immediate payment expected using Paypal.

I have a Paypal account set up to accept buyers credit- cards and the paypal account enables me to transfer funds into a small bank account that I have for my Disney trip :cheer2:

Hope this helps :teacher:

Good Luck with getting started :flower:

You will get to Disney :goodvibes !!!
