Due to Southwest's awesome airfares, I just booked a last-minute family trip for the end of September. With no discount codes available for onsite, my choices are pretty limited (budget-wise and as a family of 5). I am totally torn between staying at the Dolphin for approx. $1300 (8 nights at the gov't rate), or spending half that to stay offsite at the Hotel Royal Plaza. We really don't like to rent a car while at WDW, so I'm concerned about the transport from HRP to the parks. Would being offsite at HRP be so totally inconvenient without a car??? But then.....being right in the Epcot area would be awesome too!!

Any opinions or insight would be GREATLY appreciated!!

I'd have to say that IS a tough call, Sammy. The Dolphin is just perfectly situated in WDW and makes life so convenient, but it is a lot more than the HRP, which is a hotel I like a lot in the DD area. From recent reports, their shuttle service is decent enough and it shoulnd't be too busy at the end of September, which makes life easier here. Ultimately, you have to think what you might do with the money you'd save by staying at the HRP, which still gives you the option of walking to DD (and getting Disney transport from there) and the Crossroads area.

Thanks for the reply, Simon. I'm really in a quandry over this (some problem, eh? Being able to go to WDW and "having" to choose between two hotels...LOL!) Its just that we loved staying onsite so much the last trip and DH hates to drive while there. BUT....my yankee frugality is coming on strong with the price-can't-be-beat Royal Plaza. I think I might just throw a dart and whichever it hits....that's where we'll stay!

Anybody with any opinion out there?

Sammy
