I was thinking I can't believe I found this gas station that had regular 87 octane for $2.43 p/gallon...all the other stations were at $2.55...then I started laughing to myself thinking when I got my license in 1972 gas was .27 cents per gallon...I also remember the uproar, during the oil embargo and gas rationing, when it went up to .49 cents a gallon....people were up in arms...I wonder if they all drive SUV's like I do now :rotfl2:

I don't remember how much a gallon it was when I was a teenager. I do remember, however, that I could ride around in my seafoam green Ford Falcon all night on a dollar's worth of gas! :thumbsup2

I think when I first started driving in 85 gas was around $.79.

this is a thread I couldn't start since in NJ we don't pump our own gas.

I too, was doing the happy dance last night, when I filled up my tank. I couldn't believe my luck in thinking it was *only* $2.44/gal. When I started driving in 1985, gas was $1.12. I remember when I bought my first car, and had to fill the tank and they had just raised the price to $1.21. and I thought *that* was highway robbery!

I remember how shocked I was when gas prices first went up to over $1.00 a gallon. I was driving a big Firebird with a nice v-8 engine and the car drank gas like the SUV's do now. Little did I know at the time how good I had it! ;)

When I started driving in 1966 most people put $2 in the tank, and could drive for a week. :moped: If you had a lot of money you would put in $5. Not many people filled their tank like we do today. I hate to pump gas so I tend to wait for the light to come on and than I fill her up.

I remember in 1979 or so, we were driving through Yellowstone Park and my mom refused to stop at a gas station because they wanted a whopping .79 cents per gallon!! She was so mad-she drove all the way to Cody, WY to get gas for less money.

Scared us all because it was the middle of the night and we were close to running out of gas-in the park. We tease her about that now because we'd kill to pay .79 cent per gallon!!

:rotfl2: exactly...$3.00 worth of gas used to fill my Jeep :rotfl: ...now it barely gets you a gallon.

Same with me...my wife says I get more miles on fumes than I do per gallon :lmao:

I just got done watching "Escape to Witch Mountain" with my DD. We were :rotfl: at the part where he fills up his Winnebago and it only cost him $10!!

I remember gas for $0.99. I can't believe it was only one president ago. It seems like a lifetime.
