We have three, what I believe to be, Saw Palmettos in our backyard. As palms go, they are pretty small and look like this (not my photo).
More like a bush than a tree but left alone they'll get as tall as 12 feet, at least according to what I read online. The tallest of the three, before I went postal on it, was just over 6 feet.
You need a nearly perfect day to do this stuff. While it's a bit on the warm side right now, there was limited sun and a wonderful breeze.
I always hold my breath when I'm working with these bushes. They are a favorite hiding place for the various snakes I've seen around the house. Thankfully there were none hiding out in them today. The only wild creature I came across was a grasshopper on steroids. It was nearly 4 inches long!
I told the husband, who loves the palms, if he wasn't happy with my handy work to just wait about a month. Then it will look like I never ever touched them. Things grow way too fast down here.
Any other Floridians, or anyone in a warmer climate, doing yard work today?
