so ticked off!

Update: I got a response from the rescue group. This just made me even more irritated. How hard is it really, a simple email? So rude! I can appreciate they are busy, but really if I am super interested, as I was, a return email would have been appreciated. I'm all for the dog finding the best home, but really people where's the common courtesy these days. Yeah, I'm still ticked. People, sheesh!!!! I'd like to tell her to learn some people skills.

Below is my email and her response.

From Me: Sandy, I have been trying to get in touch with you for over a week now about meeting Manny and have sent at least two emails to you and tried to establish contact through here, but they have gone unanswered. I understand if you found someone else, who would be a better fit, but a return email really would have been appreciated. Thank you.

Her response: unfortanlly there is no time to sit down and email or call every single application we receive. Manny was a very popular boy. I contact the applications that are approved and set up a meeting. So if you dont hear from us, we have found a application to match what the dogs need not the other way around. Thanks

Me: courtesy goes a long way. Thank you

Maybe you could suggest to them that they should have a disclaimer stating that if you haven't heard back, the dog went to others. It sounds like they get so many interested people, it's hard to get back to everyone. Maybe you should step back, because it sounds like you are upset, and this process is making it worse. When we finally decide to get a dog, I'm going to look at hoping we can get one withine a one year time-frame, and take our time.

Yeah, you're right and I probably will hold off for a while. I wouldn't be so irritated, but I sent her an 2nd email saying please respond either way and she was just too busy to reply. I asked her very nicely to please let me know either way and if I don't qualify fine, just tell me so I can move forward.

I just think there's no excuse for not replying. We're all busy!! Besides, where was the apology in her response. Her reply was just I'm busy, you're not the best match, now get over it. Really, you're an excutive director, you can be a little more empathetic.

I guess I must disagree. At my work we receive emails regarding job openings. We may initially respond, but then we only respond to people who are in serious contention. It would take all day to respond to all of the emails. Not something we are willing to do by our paid employees, never mind volunteers.

If I didn't hear back from a second email or even a second phone call, i would assume I am out of the running.

I agree. What I want to know is if she has so many applicants then that means there are NO dogs waiting to go to homes right? I think she is full of beans. and how can she be so busy if all the dogs have been adopted? Find another volunteer, even a HS kid who needs vol. hours to answer all the emails even with a yes we got your email and will review it and get back to you as soon as we can blah blah blah.

IMO too many of these rescue/shelter people think of themselves way too importantly and have a bit of a power trip going on.

Hope you find a dog. We found ours thru a shelter that really is in it just for the animals, no hoops to jump thru and are thrilled with any donations, no matter the brand or amount!
