We had to cancel our trip planned for September. :sad1: We had to rearrange it once, but now we will have to cancel completely. Our plan now is to go next year, maybe springtime. The upside is I have more time to save money. :cool1:

If misery loves company I'll join you. We had a trip planned for April- I unexpectedly lost my job. So, cancelled the trip. Then DH and I planned an anniversary trip for next week. Well, tomorrow I am officially cancelling that trip. We just got our tax return back and well we owe more than I can afford- so no trip again. My comfort is knowing I have a huge credit w/ Jetblue that has to be used by May-- so I know I'm at under a year. I'm with you on saving more now. For the time being I can live vicariously through the DIS.

So sorry you had to cancel your trip. We were to go to Disney in March but my husband was going through chemo. Now we will be there the end of Aug. Upside was that I found this website, got wonderful tips and have had more time to plan.

I had to cancel/postpone my current trip twice already. Originally I had it planned for June, then moved to the 1st week of August, now tentatively the third week of October. And that may change, too! The reason is that my work is closing for renovations for four weeks, and they encourage us to take vacations during the close. Problem is, no one can tell when the this closing will take place, as it's being constantly delayed.

Sad thing is, I know I will never get an AP rate with such uncertainity, if I can't set my dates and book ahead. And top it off, my car is having problems (starting to overheat) and is currently unreliable. Sigh. :(

I also had to cancel our surprise disney cruise/parks trip for January

Business is not going good, and when it comes down to paying your property taxes and the rest of the bills vs going on vacation, well there really isn't any choice. Oh well...what can you do??????

I also had to cancel my trip to WDW in July. It currently hasn't been rescheduled but were looking towards next July hopefully :cheer2: :cheer2: So many things happened and i had no one to go with me. Im not ready for a solo trip. Good luck to all of you who are trying to reschedule trips.

At least we all know we are not alone. That just means that when we do get to make the trip it will be that much more extra special!

We had a trip planned for September 2004 and had to cancel due to the threat of hurricanes. We were willing to travel (we would have made it right in between 2 of the storms) but my MIL was freaking out at the thought her little boy and grandbabies being in danger (ok, she was worried about me too). She was undergoing cancer treatments and I couldn't stress her out so I rescheduled.

The rescheduled trip was for a month and a half later at Halloween. Unfortunately my MIL's health failed extremely quickly. She told us we should still go on our trip but my heart told me we should cancel. I'm glad we did because she died the day that we would have been on our way to Florida. My husband would never forgiven himself if he had been on vacation instead of having a last chance to say goodbye to his mother in the hospice.

We finally went on our trip the week before Christmas. With all the stress we had been under and the grief we had gone through the trip to Disney was exactly what we needed. I think someone was smiling down on us because the trip was perfect. No lines, several magical interactions with the characters etc. My DH was able to relax and genuinely smile for the first time since losing his mother. The trip was better than grief counseling.

We are going to go back again in early 2006. My DH now has a soft spot for Disney and can't wait to return.

As a side note, please urge all of your female relatives to have annual mammograms. My mother-in-law failed to have them annually. She was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in July 2004 and died in October 2004 (less than 4 months from diagnosis). She had just turned 73.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one. Too many car troubles over the last couple of weeks. First my car, then my husband's, and back to mine again. At least my DD6 handled it well. I did prepare her for the cancellation before it was definite. We plan on going to Chicago for a couple of days in September to visit the museums and the zoo to take the sting off of missing Disney World.

Wow! It's so great to know that I'm not alone. Earlier this year I found out the DAY BEFORE that I wasn't going because the person I was travelling with had to cancel. They had a chance to do some media work for a national network that was going to take place 3 days during the middle of the trip. Now I don't think I'll ever be REALLY excited for any trip, thinking that it might fall through.

What really helped me not to be soooo depressed is realizing that with the way the economy is right now, some families can't even afford to go to the nearest amusement park! At least I've already been to WDW and know that there is a chance that I can try to go later this year.

I'm glad I found this thread. I was really upset about not being able to go, and now I know I'm not alone! :sunny:

Hi Bigmac5, I also live in St. Thomas. Good to see you on the dis.Have a grea t trip. :Pinkbounc :bounce:

To add some positive vibes to this thread, the only other time I've booked a WDW vacation I had to cancel...I'd booked a week at CBR in September 2002 as a last-adult-getaway-before-the-baby (would have been five months pregnant, and I'd wanted to go for years. My husband begrudging agreed o a last vacation though he had his doubts about how romantic it would be...)

Between making the reservation and paying our deposit, two things happened:
(1) I decided we'd prefer Port Orleans (can't remember if it was POFQ or POR) and got ready to switch resorts

(2) we found out that by September I'd look and feel more like nine months pregnant: I was expecting twins!

So, we happily cancelled for a variety of reasons, all related to preparing for the safe arrival of our babies. Instead, three years later, we're taking a couple of adorable nearly-3yo princesses with us, to CSR -- with the extended family in tow :-)

We're just about at the 45-day point for a long weekend, parents-only trip in September, and are leaning towards cancelling too. Unfortunately, we're just not sure we have the time to take the trip.

But, we are planning on going in February with the whole family, so all is not lost!

Earlier this year, hubby and I talked about going to WDW in January of '06. We hadn't made any reservations, but we were starting to decide which resort and exactly which days, etc. We went to Europe and Disneyland Paris (plane tickets were a wedding present from my sister...and we stayed with her, so no hotel cost). A week after we got back, my husband lost his job.

All plans came to a screeching halt! We canceled the weekend getaway (not WDW) that we'd planned for our first anniversary.) Things looked bleak. We were worried about paying the bills each month and were quickly eating through our savings.

Thankfully, hubby recently obtained not 1, but 2 jobs. He's working full-time and part-time and the part-time check is going into the Disney fund (and rebuilding our savings). So our plans are back on and I just booked us for mid-January. Hopefully we won't have to cancel, but we just never know what might happen.

Best wishes to all who have had to cancel...for whatever reason!

We too had to cancel one last summer, we were to to stay at AKL for mine and dd birthday's. We were both disappointed but we were only going to get to go for 4 days and now we're going first week of Oct. and get to be there a full 9 days.

:cheer2: 55 days and counting
:earsgirl: princess:

I'm so sorry for those of you who had to cancel WDW trips :( I know its not WDW, but this past June DM, Dbf and I were supposed to spend a week at the beach, but DBf got a phone call our second day there that his grandfather had gotten suddenly sicker and he had to leave the next morning to fly to Portugal, so that kinda brought our trip to a screeching halt.

Pixie dust and hopes that those of you who had to cancel will have better luck coming your way :wizard:
