So POP Sounds Pretty Good,HUH?

Reading several posts here,and at other sites,it appears that POP Century is a good choice for a resort.We have stayed at all three AllStar resorts,(music is our favorite),but this year we want to try POP.Most posters agree that paying an extra $10 per night for a preferred room is a little silly,as well as I.One year,we were assigned to a room at music,that was in the calypso buildings,which is their preferred buildings.BUT! We were placed on the third floor,on the parking lot side,and it was perfect!!! No noise,no problems at all.Those bldgs are as close to the main bldg as possible.But even before that,we have stayed in the broadway set of bldgs,which is way in the back.Yes,I DID request it,and yes,we were completely happy with them,but the walk back and forth was much longer than the other bldgs.
So this is what I am gathering about the 50's,60's and 70's bldgs.It seems as if my best choice(if given one),would be either the 50's or 70's bldgs.Or the opposite side from the poolside in the 60's bldg.I do not seem to be able to find a map online of POP Century resort anywhere.Does anyone know of a map layout of the resort online anywhere? Please let me know if you do.
We are staying at POP in Oct9-17.Looking forward to another great Disney stay!!!!!

We really had a terrific time when we stayed at Pop last December. It's a great resort! If you want to be close to Classic Hall without paying for preferred view, then you are correct in requesting either the 50's or 70's buildings. We were in the 80's which were a bit further (but not too bad). If my memory serves me, the 90's would be furthest out.

We stayed in the 90's building this past June and we're hoping to get it again in November. Yes, it's far from the food court. Yes, it's no really close to any pools. BUT.........it was quiet at all times of the day. Personally I'll take quiet over convenience any day.

BTW, in June there seemed to be a group of partiers hanging out on the walkways of the 70's building til all hours of the night......smoking, drinking and living it up (really loud that is). I wouldn't want to stay in that kind of a building, no matter where it's located. Of course, this is just my experience with POP and my personal preferences.

I just stayed at the POP 7/25-8/1. Stayed in the 70's. Every minute I was there was great.
I was very impressed with everything there....except the parking.

We stayed in the 50s in April. We loved it!! Never once did we hear our neighbors. I think we got lucky w/ that. The toliets are loud. My 4 year old was talking about how much she liked staying and about going back. But she looks up at me and says " the toliet was a little noisey" I started laughing and asked her if she's been reading the message board!

I agree with Kitster! We stayed in the 70's building, facing the foosball court. It was close to the main building, but that meant that people walked by the room at ALL hours, returning from the bus or main building, yelling to their friends and family, whistling, etc. I would either stay 70's facing the lake (if I wanted to still be fairly close to the main building) or 80's/90's if I didn't mind the walk and wanted to be closer to the car. Night time quiet is very important to me.

Thank you all so very much for your info.Thank you Goof for the map.I have been checking different sites for a POP map,but no one seemed to have one.
It appears that I would like to have a room on the parking lot side of the 50's bldgs.This seems to be the closest lot to the bldgs.I am quite sure that the walk is not bad from that point.

Just returned from Pop yesterday, I guess I'm in the minority but I just didn't care for it. We stayed in the 70's and I thought it was far from everything. Who designed the layout of this resort? The distance to the parking lots is ridiculous. We hardly used our refillable mugs because I didn't want to go back and forth to the food court. We did laundry once and it was awful carrying all those clothes back and forth. We didn't like the food court, not much of a selection and the one time we ate there I found it to be overpriced. I know some of the entrees are cheap but if you add a salad and dessert, you might as well eat at a character dinner. The bus service was horrible. We were at the Mk waiting for a bus for an hour. Wishes was at 10, we stopped off at a couple of shops and then went to the bus stop. We didn't get to our room until after midnight. The lines for the other resorts had cleared out but we were all still standing there, tired, hot , and with overtired crying children. The room was nice but nothing spectacular, your basic hotel room and the toilet was extremely loud. Don't get me wrong, I love WDW and I have stayed at All Star Movies before and loved it, but I just wasn't all that happy with Pop. Sorry.

One more thing, I was disappointed with the way that people conducted themselves at the pool. Security had to come once and kick a guy out of the pool becuase he was beating up someone's kid. Kids were running wild and unsupervised. I was so mad one night that I had to leave the pool. The lifeguards go off duty at 11 and the pools are open until 12 so everyone just does whatever they want during that hour. There was a group of older boys running around and jumping in. The lifeguard kept telling them to stop but they didn't listen. The lifeguards went off duty and they really went wild. One jumped and just missed my little daughter. The parents were no where to be found. I guess when you stay in cheap hotels you stay with low class people and I'm not referring to any of you just the people that I encountered. Next time we'll stay at a deluxe resort , to me it's very much worth the extra $$.

My dad and my brother always go with the American Dental Association to WDW for yearly conventions (they are Dentists). They always stay at the All Stars or Pop - I'll be sure to let them know about the low-class trash that frequents these resorts!

That's a little harsh, don'tcha think?

BTW, I've witnessed the same pool behavior at every level of Disney hotel. It's not just a value (or "cheap") hotel problem. And rambunctious children/teens are not necessarily indicative of "low class people."

We stayed at Pop Century in February and really enjoyed it. I'm not quite sure how to take the "low class" comment that one of the other posters made, as I have never found there to be any difference in the way people behave based on how expensive the resort is. In my experience, people who have poor manners and who don't care how they behave are found in every resort at every price level.

It is often just plain old luck of the draw whether or not you end up having a negative experience with some hotel guest or not. Wasn't it a few days ago that someone who was staying at the Grand Floridian had problems with the screaming fight that the people in the next room were having?

And since we've stayed at almost every resort on Disney property at one time or the other(smile), I'm pretty sure that if behavior was connected to price paid, we would have seen that particular connection. Disappointing experiences happen to some of us, some of the time no matter where you stay. Pop Century happens to be one of the more popular resorts for DVC people to stay on the weekends to maximize their use of points and I kind of doubt if anyone would say that people who've invested that much money at WDW are going to automatically be low class just because they are staying at Pop Century(smile).

We stayed in the 50's building and while it was a bit noisy (faced the pool), our white noise machine took care of any problem with the volume. The CM's were wonderful (Hi, Tyler!) and we had no problems other than the too small parking lots.

Wow! Guess I'm low class then because I love POP. We stayed 10 nights last month and found the resort to be wonderful.

My suggestion for the OP is to let the CM checking you in know that you wouldlike a quieter room. We were in 50's building A, second floor att he end of the T right by the stairs. It was really convenient to get to both the parking lot, the main building and the buses. The resort is larger than Music so getting a room way out can mean a lot of walking. On the other hand it is nice to walk around the resort and along the lake. We have stayed at all of the All Stars and like POP even better. It just felt like they took everything that was great about the All Stars and made it even better.

In my experience, there's absolutely NO correlation between income or the amount spent on a hotel room and class.

You'll find all kinds of people everywhere.

Normally, I disagree with GM, but not this time.

I have stayed in the CR Tower, DI, POR, CBR, AKL, and ASMusic and Movies. I am having an identity crisis, am I low class, high class or what?

mickeyfan1, sounds MIDDLE class to me. CR Tower puts you on the verge of high class, but you haven't made it to the upper crust hotels like the Poly and GF. So maybe you qualify for UPPER middle class???
