we've been waiting for DCL to release the summer 2018 itineraries and somehow it happened last week without my noticing (might be the pneumonia that's had me in bed for days now)...

so anyone considering a DCL cruise?
med? northern europe? western europe?

the prices are high as was expected, but i still think we prefer DCL over royal as we're planning on taking the entire family again...
and even with the high prices, it's still a whole lot cheaper than a WDW holiday...

we figure that it's a less expensive way for us to get our disney fix...(about a third of the price based on the numbers i just played with)

so 2018 planning has begun even before the 2017 trip has taken place!!!!
(they don't call us disneyholic for nothing!!!!) :)

.

I've been looking at them. I don't think we'll do one in 2018 as I'm pretty sure what we're doing for our WDW over the summer. I'd really like to do a Med cruise but I think we'd go with Princess or Royal, mainly due to the cost of DCL. We will return to DCL again as we do prefer them over any other line but it'll probably be the double dip, maybe in 2019. The only ship we haven't sailed on as yet is the Fantasy so I would like to do a 7 night Caribbean too.

Good luck with your planning.

you'll laugh but we're already toying around with 2019.....tokyo disney...
i was just playing with those numbers and it's much much much much much cheaper for us than going to WDW!!!!
who knew!!!
for us, the flights are about 60% of the cost of those to the US...
and that's including a stop in shanghai and hong kong!!! crazy.. (for disney of course)

the tokyo disney hotels are very pricey (though cheaper than WDW), but if we stay at the hilton (where DD stayed for her trip to TDR), it's downright cheap...

it still works out to more than the DCL cruise trip i priced for 2018 (including my flight estimates to get to barcelona)...
but pretty cool that we can get to the far east for far less than i thought it would be..

yeah, been having a disney planning kind of day today.... too much time on my hands...

i haven't been on the fantasy either...i'd love to do a 7 night in the caribbean, but it's hard for us to manage that much time in the states together with a WDW trip...

We are doing Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong this year! My flights are much more expensive than going to the USA - never paid more that £350 indirect for WDW but our asia trip is about £700 each for flights

Back on topic.....we booked the Sept 2018 Alaska

that's so cool that you're doing disney far east!!
you MUST write up a report with lots of pictures!!!!
and i'll want to totally pick your brain!!

alaska is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
did you book DCL or a different cruise line?
we went to alaska in 2015....a week in alaska proper (or whatever they call it - anchorage, seward, etc)
and then a week on royal caribbean's radiance of the seas (southbound from seward alaska to vancouver)..

we ADORED alaska!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i would love to go again!!!

in my dreams i'd love to spend the summer there that's how much we loved it!!

we booked Disney - going to do a road trip through the rockies and then onto the ship

I second that Alaska is amazing - we've been twice and would go back in a heartbeat. Would also love to go east one year.

For 2018 we've booked the Copenhagen-Dover repo that visits Norway and Iceland. We were originally thinking of booking the Dover-Barcelona repo (although it's reversed and is Barcelona-Dover this time) but DH insisted I got prices for both and I'm really glad of this because the Copenhagen-Dover isn't as expensive as I'd thought it would be. Really looking forward to over nighting in Iceland and bringing the Magic home to Dover. And it will be three new countries to tick off for this cruise - Norway, Iceland and Scotland. :thumbsup2

yes, i noticed the norway/iceland cruise is just a bit more than the spain/portugal cruise - and isn't the norway/iceland one 10 or 11 nights? so you're getting a longer cruise for just barely a bit more...

i was also looking at those two cruises...i think we'll end up with one of those as well...
i wonder if anyone will do the two one way med cruises as a back to back....

.

My plan is to do the Far East in 2020 (yes, I'm planning that far away!) DS has always wanted to visit Tokyo so I'm tentatively hoping we can visit when the summer olympics are happening and do Disney as well as some of Japan at the same time. I'll hopefully be retired by then, DS will have finished uni so our travel dates won't be as restricted.

I bet there will be a fair bit of interest but the downside would be a short day in Civitavecchia. As the majority of guests seem to head to Rome it would make it quite tight on time.

:thumbsup2 My DH has got two years to go ..... not that I'm counting or anything ;) :rolleyes1

We did have a good look at the summer itineraries but think we will wait for the release of dates later this year as we are waiting for the Panama Canal on the Wonder in early 2019.
Hoping to do the Fjords next year but prob with someone else as the Disney dates don't suit us.
Interesting that they've reversed the European itinerary to finish further north. I wonder whether the west bound transatlantic will sail from Dover next year. Might be tempting!

I think there's a very good chance it could be Dover - it wouldn't really make much sense to repo elsewhere for a couple of short cruises then go transatlantic but I suppose anything's possible! I'd love to sail it but won't really be a possibility, especially if it is that date as that's my eldest DD's wedding day! I had to 'get permission' from her to book the cruise that gets us back two weeks before! ;)

I do love he cruises! We are going on our third Disney cruise in September (WBTA) and my DH and I both love it! 201 days to go (not that I'm counting!!!)
Would love to do Alaska but we have our sights set on the Panama Canal next then a short trip on the Dream in 2020 post our anniversary trip to WDW. Then we will have been on all 4 of the current ships before the new ones arrive :stitch::earsgirl::earsboy:

Looking? Yes. Considering? Yes. Going? Probably not. As first time cruisers, I think we need to invest last cash on our first go, sadly, which is a shame as the Norway/Iceland cruise is right up our street!

2020 isn't far away....
we've been planning the 2017 WDW trip since 2011....and look at that....we're less than 160 days away from our trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so it seems far away but the time does passes like the blink of an eye

japan is a wonderful country...i spent a lot of time there when i was growing up....and then again with DH...
i love it so much i brainwashed my daughter so much so that she always wanted to go and finally a few years ago (when she was about 23 or something) she and a friend traveled there for 3 weeks and she too fell in love with japan!!...

i hope you and your family enjoy it as much as we do!!! :)

they've only released up to the beginning of september right?
i wonder what cruises will be in september and when the westbound TA will be..
i've been dying to do a TA forever, but it's never worked...maybe 2018 will be the year!! :)

well actually, i crossed the atlantic several times as a child - including on the original queen mary back in 1963 when i was 7 years old....totally amazing sailing!!!! i remember it to this day....every bit of it!! magical

very jealous of that WBTA of yours!! i'm not interested in the PC...well not at this time, but things can change...

yes the prices are very high..
but maybe they'll have more of a bargain as the final payment day rolls around?
you never know..

We have a 4 night repo booked for this September, from Vancouver down to San Diego. It will be our 10th Disney cruise but fear it will be our last for a while.
Next cruise we want to do is Alaska, I got some quotes recently, 3 adults in a balcony cabin, very similar itinerary with both cruiselines, Holland America $2,200 vs Disney $7,700. No matter how much we enjoy Disney cruising its not worth that kind of money to me.

are you doing a west coast road trip in combination with the repo?

for alaska, i highly recommend doing a one way cruise so that you can spend time inside alaska proper...
rent a car and or take the glass dome train...
so much to see inside alaska...
DD went from fairbanks to denali to anchorage to seward..
we didn't have as much time so we concentrated on anchorage, whittier and seward before boarding the ship....
whatever you do it's a magnificent part of the world!!

we did the southbound cruise from seward alaska to vancouver (in 2015)...
on royal's radiance of the seas....it was a truly wonderful cruise and the time in inland alaska was amazing!!

until disney does a one way cruise in alaska, i can't recommend them for it..
