We closed on August 21 and I was so excited. We found what we thought was the perfect house for us. A run down house that was structually sound in a nice neighborhood. The day after we closed we went in and went to work. We ripped up carpet, spackled walls, and cleaned and cleaned. We worked for several very hot days. Then on the following Tuesday my FIL (he built his home) was getting ready to remove a piece of damaged wall so we could replace it and that's when he found them. Termites, and severe termite damage. They are in every exterior wall and the sill plate. We had a termite inspection done and were told that the only signs of termites was a little damage in the backyard shed and no live infestation. Needless to say I am heartbroken, this was my first house and now we can't even live there. Upon further research we also found that although our plumbing was certified it is a mess. Half the pipes don't work and that half that do are leaking. We also had the electric, heat and septic certified but no one can find a copy of the actual certification, just the bills. What a mess. And to make matters worse, at the end of this month we will have no place to live. We gave ourselves a month to get all the work done. Which would have been more than enough time had we not found our little surprise.

We see a lawyer tomorrow. I am hopeful that we can resolve this whole mess quickly. My dh and I just want out of this mess. We want our downpayment back and to void the bill of sale due to misrepresentation of the property. Cross your fingers and say a little prayer for us. We have had the house looked at and from what the experts tell us it will cost more to repair the house than the house is worth. Ugh what a mess.

And you want to hear the funny part. I will be living with my inlaws for the next 6 months at least but going on a very expensive trip to Disney in November. I'm basically homeless and going to Disney, doesn't seem right does it? However, after living with my inlaws for a while it might be necessary.

Thanks for letting me vent

Jenn:(

I'm so sorry. I had a similar disappointment when I lost my first house, but ended up finding an even better one. Hopefully that will happen for you!

How horrible. I hope everything gets straightened out and you can get out of the purchase.

GOOD GRAVY! I hope you get justice served. I suppose the only bright spot is you found out this stuff rather quickly which will give you a legal leg up, so to speak.
Good Luck with things.

I am so sorry that this is happening. I hope that the lawyer can help get everything resolved quickly since someone misrepresented several thigs it sounds like!!

I know living with someone else for 6 months is NOT what you had hoped fo, but take your time at WDW and have the most magical trips ever!!

Wow, Jenn, a tale of woe and aggravation for sure. But, on the good side, (and not a realtor here) I do think you will come out okay through the misrepresentation laws. Maybe a DIS realtor will see this and give you a thought or two. (Maybe even add a 'looking for realtor thoughts' to your thread title here).

And do know well the WDW trip will jumpstart you guys and make you smile again. {{Hugs}} and my best.

Dan

I'm sorry and I hope things turn out well. Please keep us updated.

UGH! What a mess for you!:( Good luck with the lawyer - I'm sure everything will work out for the best.:D

I like to think that things happen for a reason but this is really a mess! Good luck in getting this resolved and quickly finding that perfect home.

I would certainly hope that all of the certification papers hlpe you out. I really does sound like misrepresentation and you did your homework before hand.

Please keep us informed and good luck!

Wow! Who did the termite inspection? Weren't very good at it. I hope you get your money back and good ting you discovered this now instead of later. Good luck!
