We closed on August 21 and I was so excited. We found what we thought was the perfect house for us. A run down house that was structually sound in a nice neighborhood. The day after we closed we went in and went to work. We ripped up carpet, spackled walls, and cleaned and cleaned. We worked for several very hot days. Then on the following Tuesday my FIL (he built his home) was getting ready to remove a piece of damaged wall so we could replace it and that's when he found them. Termites, and severe termite damage. They are in every exterior wall and the sill plate. We had a termite inspection done and were told that the only signs of termites was a little damage in the backyard shed and no live infestation. Needless to say I am heartbroken, this was my first house and now we can't even live there. Upon further research we also found that although our plumbing was certified it is a mess. Half the pipes don't work and that half that do are leaking. We also had the electric, heat and septic certified but no one can find a copy of the actual certification, just the bills. What a mess. And to make matters worse, at the end of this month we will have no place to live. We gave ourselves a month to get all the work done. Which would have been more than enough time had we not found our little surprise.
We see a lawyer tomorrow. I am hopeful that we can resolve this whole mess quickly. My dh and I just want out of this mess. We want our downpayment back and to void the bill of sale due to misrepresentation of the property. Cross your fingers and say a little prayer for us. We have had the house looked at and from what the experts tell us it will cost more to repair the house than the house is worth. Ugh what a mess.
And you want to hear the funny part. I will be living with my inlaws for the next 6 months at least but going on a very expensive trip to Disney in November. I'm basically homeless and going to Disney, doesn't seem right does it? However, after living with my inlaws for a while it might be necessary.
Thanks for letting me vent
