I ordered 2 Christmas centerpieces from DD14's friend, fundraiser for her French Class trip to France. I was thinking, that was easy, help a good cause, etc. Well, they arrived yesterday and they are HORRIBLE. They have one each of a small white and red poinsettia in them so I suppose they are technically "Christmasy" but then they have a bunch of other greenery-NONE of which is pine. There is a cyclamen in there and some ivy too. Oh, and the "holiday basket" that was advertised is just a plain old wicker basket, nothing festive at all.

I think I will take them to my florist friend and have her make them actually LOOK Christmasy.

It was for a good cause, it was for a good cause, it was for a good cause.

Just keep repeating that to yourself as you pay the extra money out to make them look nice.

Do hope they turn out bearable. :thumbsup2

Hope you didn't pay a lot of money for them - since you have to have them re-done now..

Sounds like a bunch of other people will likely be unhappy as well.. That's a shame - especially since you were trying to help a good cause..:sad2:

I think between the two of them they were $70 not horrible but not cheep either.

Ouch! That is a lot to pay for something that didn't deliver what was expected.

Did they turn okay?

See, to me a Christmas centerpiece should be lots of pine greenery and stuff. This is what they look like.

They have to be kidding!! Nothing "Christmasy" about that! Ooooo.. I would be ticked! :headache:

They're ALMOST Christmassy. They just needed to put some large red velvet bows on them and maybe toss in a glass ornament or two (a simple shiny ball and maybe a candy cane bought in quantity from discount stores). Maybe a little more pine...I do see some in there but it's the princess pine which doesn't scream Christmas as much as traditional long needle varieties. It really won't take much at all to bring them up to par!

It was for a good cause. :)

I see a little Xmas in the poinsettia but the cyclamen detracts from those colors.

Make sure you give the school your feedback - they need to know what they are ordering is not hitting the mark.

Sorry - it's no fun to support a fundraiser and not be happy with it :sad2:

The cyclamen and ivy surely don't scream Christmas to me either. :rotfl2:

They are fixable and if you like plants, you do have two you can keep out year round. :thumbsup2

Oh, those are pretty!! While not as Christmasy as you might have wanted they are still very pretty. I would switch the bow to something red or green, all an ornament and maybe a candy cane (as a PP suggested) and leave it at that.

I think that's the point of them charging $70 for the centerpiece. They probably wanted to offer an item that, after the holidays, can be broken down and used as individual plants scattered around the house. A lesser price would probably have included more short lived fresh cut greenery....and items that are only appropriate during the Christmas season.

When you look at it from the view that you have several plants there that will continue to live beyond the holidays it doesn't seem quite so bad. LOL

Is this helping? (hope so!) :)

 That looks more like "leftovers" then Christmas! You coulda thrown something together from the dollar store that looks better than that! At least it was for a good cause!

I was thinking the same thing, I have a few plants that I can keep around for DS's graduation in the spring :lmao:.

Next year you can buy them from my DD for her Choir fundraiser LOL, we sold these for only $22 and they are gorgeous!!!

You are right, those don't look very Christmasy to me either.

See, when they said "Christmas Centerpiece" this is what I was thinking. I have a friend that is a florist and I am going to bring them to her and see if she can salvage anything out of them, maybe the poinsettias, maybe :lmao:. Well, the baskets will make good bread baskets for when we have company.

The really sad thing is that they were assembled by a HUGE nursery near our town--we get our summer plants there but these are AWFUL!!!

I dont think they are ugly:confused3
Actually-for $35 each-you have 3 blooming plants-at a florist shop that would sell for $45-50

I wouldn't consider that a Christmas centerpiece. It's not ugly, just not Christmas themed either.
To me it looks rather thrown together. A little of this, a little of that. Not very well themed.
I hope your friend can fix it to your liking. :goodvibes
